Yes, Kuvempu University accepts national-level entrance exams such as UGC NET, GATE for admission to PhD course. Besides, the university conducts an entrance exam for PhD candidates who did not appear for any of the accepted exams. The entrance exam is usually conducted in August. The university releases the result for the entrance exam by the end of August.

Kuvempu University PhD students are open to fellowships offered by Government of India and Government of Karnataka. Below are some of the scholarships available for PhD students:

Candidates need to complete master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ ST) or equivalent grade under the grading system can apply for Kuvempu University PhD. There is no such provision for direct admission to any of the programmes at Kuvempu University. The university course admissions are both merit and entrance-exam-based. For MBA and MCA, the university fills the unfilled seats through university entrance exam. KU also conducts an entrance test for admission to BPEd and MPEd courses. Once the selection is over, Kuvempu University releases a selection list to announce the names of selected candidates.

BSW	Students who have successfully completed two- year pre university examination (PUC) conducted by the Karnataka Pre University Board or any other equivalent examination recognised by the Kuvempu University are eligible.
M.A.	Candidates must have passed with mentioned marks in the cognate subject at the Bachelors degree and 40% marks in the aggregate of all subjects from any recognised university.
B.Com	Students who have successfully completed two- year pre university examination (PUC) conducted by the Karnataka Pre University Board or any other equivalent examination recognised by the Kuvempu University are eligible to take admission to B.A. B.S.W, B.B.M. or B.Com Courses. Students who have passed the three - year Diploma in Commercial Secretarial Practice conducted by the Dept. of Technical Education, Govt. of Karnataka, are eligible to take admission to the III Sem B.Com directly. Such students will not avail of the benefit of exemption in any subject of the 3rd4th5thand 6th Sem of B.Com. Same is the case with students who have completed 2 year Diploma in Business Administration. They can take admission directly to the 5th Sem. of B.Com. But they have to clear the language subjects of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4thSemesters of B.Com.
