Pondicherry University boasts a well-developed infrastructure spanning 800 acres of land. The university has several academic buildings, hostels, sports facilities, and a library. The academic buildings at Pondicherry University are well-equipped with modern facilities. The library has a large collection of books, journals, and other resources. The sports facilities at Pondicherry University include a stadium, a swimming pool, and a gymnasium. Pondicherry University infrastructure also consists of well-maintained hostels and offers comfortable accommodations to students. The university also offers several guesthouses for visitors. 

Pondicherry University Campus Highlights 

Located in Chinna Kalapet, Puducherry, the University has two big auditoriums, several seminar halls, conference halls, etc. All the major events, such as conferences, workshops, seminars, meetings, placement programmes and cultural events take place in the university's auditoriums. Both the auditoriums are well-furnished, air-conditioned and equipped with modern facilities. The Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium has a total seating capacity of 600 students. The second auditorium is comparatively small and has a total seating capacity of 350 students. The university also has a health centre in association with Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, with a round-the-clock medical facility. Pondicherry University Hostels Facilities

The university has a total of 22 hostels, of which fourteen are for boys and eight are for girls. The hostel facilities are separate for boys and girls students. Out of these 14 hostels, 10 hostels are for are for PG courses and four for Research Scholars. For girls, 7 hostels are for PG courses, and 1 hostel is for research scholars. All the hostel rooms have all the basic amenities, including a study table, a chair, cupboards, fans, electricity, etc. For the residential students, dining and mess facilities are compulsory. Dining out at the hostel mess is strictly prohibited. Five well-equipped messes (three for boys & two for girls) are available for dining. All the hostesses are supervised by the wardens. For security purposes, the Pondicherry University hostels are under the surveillance of a 24/7 CCTV camera facility. 

Apart from the hostel facilities, the University also has a day care centre for the faculty and staff members. Children are taken care of by trained and dedicated caretakers with the assistance of two helpers. A food facility is there at the day care centre with home-cooked food. The hostel fees are to be paid every year at the beginning of the academic year in June/ July as follows:

• Room Rent for P.G students – INR 900/- p.a. 
• Room Rent for Ph.D – INR 1800/- p.a. 
• General Amenities Fund – INR 700/- p.a. 
• Establishment Charges – INR 300/- p.a. 
• Application Fees (at the time of admission only) – INR 75/-

2. Other than above, a caution deposit of INR 3,000/- (for Indian nationals) is to be paid while joining the hostels. This will be refunded after vacating the hostel through Account Transfer/ Account Payee Cheque, subject to surrender of the original Challan after deducting dues, if any.

Pondicherry University Library

The Pondicherry University Library, named after Ananda Rangapillai—who was Dubash to Lord Dupleix during French rule—has been a vital part of the university since 1986. Over the years, it has evolved into a comprehensive Knowledge Resource Centre that caters to students, research scholars, and faculty, focusing on facilitating learning and supporting research. The Library is currently undergoing major upgrades to its infrastructure and information services.

The Ananda Rangapillai Library, as the central library is named, is a multi-storied facility designed for both traditional and digital academic resource access. It offers:

• Over 2.2 lakh printed volumes

• 6,000+ journals

• Institutional Repository

• E-learning rooms and discussion cabins

• Access to databases like JSTOR, ScienceDirect, Scopus

Wi-Fi is available throughout the library, and users can access digital materials remotely through institutional login credentials. The library is open from 8 AM to 10 PM and operates extended hours during exams

Pondicherry University Sports Facilities

Recognised for its vibrant sports culture, Pondicherry University boasts excellent facilities, including two outdoor stadiums—one with an 800-capacity football field and a 400-meter track, and the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium with a capacity of 1000 and an international-standard pitch. The campus also features tennis courts, volleyball courts, and basketball courts. Additionally, there is a 16-station multi-gymnasium equipped with treadmills, bicycles, physiotherapy gear, and other fitness and therapy equipment. The university hosts regular national-level tournaments each year, supported by various sponsors, enhancing its lively sports environment and providing exclusive gym facilities for both boys and girls.

Pondicherry University is a nearby spot for numerous historical attractions. It is located in Kalapet, which is quite near to Auroville, the most prominent town based on the symbolised theme of human unity. Going a little farther, you can find the Aurobindo Ashram for get spiritual retreat in the city. One of the best locations for outings and water activities is considered to be Promenade Beach, Paradise Beach, Serenity Beach and Chunnamber Boat House to get a surfing experience in addition to an aesthetic view of sunrise. Some of the hangout destinations for students would be cafes and bakeries in White Town, such as Café des Arts, Le Café, and Baker Street.
