Yes, Sikkim University offers B.Ed. Admission for 2023 is entrance based and graduation with 50%. B.Ed is offered in the affiliated college/ Universities of Sikkim University. The duration for the course is two years, applicants will be shortlisted for the further proceeding of the admission on the basis of marks secured in CUET PG 2023. Sikkim University is building a world-class campus on a plot of land measuring 300 acres at Yangang in the South District of Sikkim and located 56 kilometers from Gangtok. The Government of Sikkim handed over a major portion of land for the purpose and the former President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in his capacity as the Visitor of the university, laid the foundation stone of the campus on April 16, 2013 in the august presence of the Governor and the Chief Minister of Sikkim.
Sikkim University takes applications from the deserving UG and PG students for merit-cum-means scholarship in the prescribed format. Meritorious students who have secured 55% (50% for SC, ST, and OBC) in qualifying examination/ overall percentage of previous semesters as the case may be (50% for renewal cases) with an average family income of less than INR 60,000/- per annum and receiving no other scholarship/ financial assistance from any other source are eligible to apply. Students may apply in the prescribed format along with the parents’ income certificate (certificate issued by any officer, not below the rank of BDO/ Tahsildar). The fellowship will be awarded under the following category:
- Fellowship: INR 3,000 per month.
- Freeship: Full tuition fee and laboratory fee waiver.
- Half Freeship: 50% tuition fee and laboratory fee waiver.
Sikkim University PG admissions are based on CUET PG scores followed by the counselling. For 2023, Sikkim University Counselling for CUET PG closed after Round 2 Seat Allotment. The closing ranks for top 5 PG courses stood at 127 for M.A. in International Relations, 155 for Master of Law (LL.M.), 179 for M.A. in English, 215 for M.A. in Psychology and 128 for M.A. in Political Science for General category All India Quota seats. Of all the PG courses, M.A. in Psychology, can be considered the most competitive of all because of the highest closing scores at 215.
Sikkim University has nine hostels – four for girls and five for boys. The hostels are located on hired premises, and the infrastructure is modest. Further expansion of hostel facilities is not possible due to difficulty in finding appropriate space and availability of wardens. Demand for seats in these hostels is very high. While the University makes utmost efforts to accommodate as many applicants as possible it cannot ensure 100% accommodation in its hostels. Admission to hostels will be provided for one semester subject to renewal on compliance with hostel rules and regulations of the University. Application for admission to hostel accommodation can be made online at the time of filling out the online admission form. Hostel accommodation is based on merit, availability of seats, departments, and the reservation policy of the Govt. of India. No applicant from areas in and around Gangtok is eligible for hostel accommodation.
