CUET Syllabus 2025

CUET UG Economics Syllabus

National Testing Agency released CUET Economics Syllabus 2026 at official website - cuet.nta.nic.in. Candidates seeking admission to UG courses such as B.A. in Economics, B.Sc. in Economics. B.Com (Hons.), and so on, through the CUET, must check the syllabus. CUET Economics is one of the top 10 CUET subjects and is opted mostly by commerce students. The National Testing Agency has made changes in CUET Eco syllabus this year by adding Indian Economic Development.

CUET Economics Syllabus covers important topics such as Consumer Behavior and Demand, Determination of Income and Employment, National Income, Money and Banking, Indian Economy, Economic Reform 1991, etc. The economics syllabus for CUET UG is divided into 13 units, including topics from Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Indian Economic Development. The National Testing Agency will conduct the CUET UG 2026 between May 11 and May 31, 2026

CUET UG is on of the biggest UG entrance exam carnival conducted for admission in cebtral, state, private and deemed universities.

Unit I: Introduction, Theory of Consumer Behaviour

  • What is microeconomics?
  • Central problems of an economy
  • Consumer’s Equilibrium: meaning and attainment of equilibrium through Utility Approach: One and two commodity cases.
  • Demand: market demand, determinants of demand, demand schedule, demand curve, movement along and shifts in demand curve, price elasticity of demand, measurement of price elasticity of demand – percentage, total expenditure and geometric methods
Unit II: Production and Costs

 

  • Production function: Short run and Long run production function
  • Shapes of TP, MP and AP curves
  • Cost and Revenue: Concepts of costs; short-run cost curves (fixed and variable costs; total, average and marginal costs); concepts of revenue – total, average and marginal revenue and their relationship. Producer’s equilibrium – with the help of MC and MR.
Unit III: The Theory of the firms under perfect competition
  • Features of perfect competition
  • Profit maximization.
  • Price determination under perfect competition – equilibrium price, effects of shifts in demand and supply.
  • Supply: market supply, determinants of supply, supply schedule, supply curve movement along and shifts in supply curve, price elasticity of supply, measurement of price elasticity of supply.
Unit IV: Market Equilibrium and Simple Applications

Unit I: Introduction and National Income Accounting

    • Basic concepts in macroeconomics:
    • Circular flow of income; Methods of calculating National Income - Value Added or Product method, Expenditure method, Income method
  • Aggregates related to National Income:
    • Factor Cost, Basic 
Unit II: Money and Banking
  • Meaning and functions, supply of money - Money Creation and Money Multiplier.
  • Central bank and its functions (example of the Reserve Bank of India)
  • Policy tools to control money supply.
Unit III: Determination of Income and Employment
  • Aggregate demand and its components.
  • Determination of Income in two sector model.
  • Problems of excess demand and deficient demand; measures to correct them - changes in government spending, taxes and money supply
  • Multiplier mechanism.
Unit IV: Government Budget and the Economy
  • Government budget - meaning, objectives and components
  • Classification of receipts - revenue receipts and capital receipts;
  • Classification of expenditure – revenue expenditure and capital expenditure.

Unit II Economic Reforms since 1991

  • Features and appraisals of liberalisation, globalisation and privatisation (LPG policy)

Unit III: Current challenges facing the Indian Economy

  • Human Capital Formation: How people become resource; Role of human capital in economic development; Growth of Education Sector in India
  • Rural development: Key issues - credit and marketing - role of cooperatives; agricultural market system, Agriculture diversification; alternative farming - organic farming
  • Employment: Growth and changes in work force participation rate in formal and informal sectors; problems and policies

CUET Economics Exam Pattern

As per the CUET UG exam pattern by NTA, the Economics Question Paper will comprise 50 questions, and candidates must attempt all questions within 60 minutes. Candidates preparing for the CUET exam must check the table below to know the important details about CUET economics.

Is Calculator Allowed in CUET Eco Exam?

CUET Economics exam includes many topics in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics that require calculations. Candidates must note that NTA does not allow candidates to use physical calculators or smartwatches to perform mathematical calculations to answer questions. Candidates will be provided with a rough paper which can be used to do manual calculations.

Q:   is it enough to learn from NCERT textbooks to clear CUET?
A: 

Since the CUET UG 2026 syllabus is in line with the Class 12 Board exam syllabus, it can be safely assumed that the NCERT books are enough to clear CUET UG 2025 exam. Candidates must note that, CUET exam tests students' understanding of the concepts and ability to apply them in various situations. Therefore, to prepare well and get a good score, it is advised that students refer to other study materials and books designed for national level competitive entrance exams. The CUET UG syllabus is in tune with the Class 12 Board exam syllabus. The chapters and topics are similar to Class 12 syllabus. Unlike other UG entrance exams, CUET UG syllabus does not include Class 11 syllabus.

No, CUET is not a compulsory exam required for getting admission in SAGE University Bhopal. The university accepts CUET scores, admission is primarily through the SAGE Entrance Exam (SEE) or merit in qualifying exams.

Sister Nivedita University accepts CUET scores for admission in courses, such as BA, BDes, BFA, BCom, etc. Aspirants without CUET score can also get admission. They can appear for SNUET conducted by the university for admission in UG and PG courses.

No, VELS School of Mass Communication does not accept CUET or any other entrance for that matter. All courses accept merit-based admissions. Which means, only your Class 10/ 12/ UG marks will be considered depending on the programme.

No, CUET-UG counselling is yet to begin for academic year 2026. Results for this year's exam are scheduled to release by July. Counselling rounds will begin only after results have been declared. Candidates can track counselling dates from website of TISS, Mumbai for BSc admission.

No, candidates cannot get admission into BA at Tata Institute of Social Sciences without appearing for CUET-UG. Candidates will be selected during CUET-UG counselling for which, appearing in its entrance exam is a mandatory requirement.

Yes, CUET-UG is a mandatory entrance exam for admission into Tata Institute of Social Sciences BA course. No other entrance exams are accepted for admission into this course and candidates cannot apply directly.

CUET-UG registrations also affect admission schedule if TISS, Mumbai.
