After completing dentistry, pursuing management was the right choice: Dr Ishaan Kapoor
I am a dentist, who became a healthcare manager, as I was interested in hospital operations research. I always wanted to take up science and wanted to become a dentist. It was my aim in life. As a child, I was always curious to know more and more about this profession.
While I was studying at a dental school I was always interested in the subjects related to research and management. It was only after working for seven months I decided to study management as a full-time course. Studying management was the right choice, it has helped me increase my knowledge and skills.
That’s when I took admission in IIHMR - Institute of Health Management. The institute helped me realise the importance of management in healthcare and provided me with the platform for achieving relevant knowledge and skills.
Admissions in IIHMR is not really an easy task. I appeared for the All India Management Aptitude Test (AIMAT) in December 2017, a national level aptitude examination for various management colleges throughout the country. The cut-off for IIHMR University is somewhere around 500 to 800 in AIMAT. I scored good marks and was then selected for the second round i.e. group discussion and personal interview. After successfully clearing all the rounds, I became a part of the IIHMR family.
IIHMR is fun, there are a number of extracurricular activities that one can choose from. Some of the engaging activities include cricket, swimming and badminton, among others. There are many clubs and committees that one can be a part of. I personally was a member of media relations committee and the research and publications committee of the university.
IIHMR makes sure that a student gets an overall development and not just bookish knowledge. Overall, IIHMR has helped me shape myself in an amazing way. In a total of one and a half years, I see myself as a more confident and presentable person.
Author Bio: Dr Ishaan Kapoor is a dentist-turned-healthcare manager. His hobbies include playing guitar, solving puzzles and reading books.
