Offline CA exams can be held from July 5 and COVID-affected students should be given an opt-out option, the Supreme Court said while hearing three petitions relating to the upcoming CA exams 2021.
The Supreme Court has asked the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to come up with a policy where a competent authority can issue a certificate explaining why a student could not write exam due to COVID-19.
CA Final, Inter, IPC and PQC exams are scheduled to take place between July 5 and July 20 and the CA Foundation exams will be held from July 24-30, 2021.

The ICAI on June 28 said that the exams could not be postponed as Covid cases had declined substantially, adding that it would be right time to conduct the exam for those aspiring to be CAs.

The court has directed the institute to present a note incorporating its suggestions, other deliberations and also ICAI’s stand on them.
The bench noted that persons who recover from Covid may have long-term problems due to which they may not be able to appear for the exam. “General policy may be adopted where an authorised agency can certify that he/she is not able to appear in exam,” the bench said.
The bench told ICAI counsel that they can take certificate as a valid certificate in place of RT-PCR test so that the candidate can take the next exam. “RT-PCR test is no test. Some negative persons were actually positive. Evolve a policy that one can certify why one could certify why one could not appear,” the bench added.
Meanwhile, 6,000 CA students have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to postpone the CA exams. The top court will hear the plea on ICAI CA aspirants’ for final disposal on Wednesday (June 30).
