Dress Code in Welingkar Institute of Management

Violating this dress code in Welingkar Institute of Management leads to prohibition from entering the college unless there is an exceptional case and appropriate permission has been taken for the same.

All the students of Welingkar Institute of Management must wear their ID cards throughout their stay on the college campus.

Just like in any Indian B-school, it is compulsory for all the students to wear formals once they are on the college premises of both the Mumbai as well as Bengaluru campuses of Welingkar Institute of Management. While formals need to be worn on all weekdays (Monday to Friday), one has the option to wear smart casual attire on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). Violating this dress code leads to prohibition from entering the college unless there is an exceptional case and appropriate permission has been taken for the same. It is strongly recommended to wear formal cotton clothes considering the hot and humid weather in Mumbai for nearly the entire year.

Dress Code for Boys

Boys must wear a formal shirt and a pant or formal trousers with polished shoes. Ideally, both the shirts and pants/trousers should not be fancy. The shoes must be formal; sports shoes and sneakers are not allowed. One thing to note here is that one can wear sandals during the monsoon season since most of the roads leading to college are prone to flooding in the wake of a heavy downpour. However, once inside the college, only formal shoes are allowed. In case of a leg injury, the college administration must be informed in writing. Students may also have to carry a blazer as and when stated by the college officials. Blazers of navy blue, black and grey colour are permitted. During the placement processes (for summer internships as well as executive/final placements), both boys and girls must wear a blazer (and a tie, which is applicable only to boys).

Dress Code for Girls

Girls do have the option to wear both Indian and Western formal attire. However, it is advisable to opt more for the Western than the Indian wear during regular lectures, conferences, seminars and alumni interactions, while going for the Indian formal wear (formal salwar kameez, Kurtis) on certain cultural occasions. The shirts must be properly tucked in and ideally, be full-sleeved. Expectedly, the formals must always be ironed well with no ban placed on the shirt and pants being of a particular colour as such. Girls can wear formal heels and shoes (sneakers too, but only on weekends).

ID Cards

All the students must wear their ID cards throughout their stay on the college campus. Security guards check for the cards at the college gate itself. In case one doesn’t carry, he/she needs to register for a temporary card and wear it.

The college used to provide a grey-coloured T-shirt during its annual outbound program (which usually happens within a month of the college commencement, and only for the first-year students), with a logo of its own. Any kind of fancy clothes, accessories, hairstyles, revealing tattoos or piercing is strictly prohibited by the college administration. In the event of a special occasion (traditional day, farewell party, etc.), the college separately states the kind of attire (e.g., Indian wear) to be worn by the students. In the pre-pandemic times, the college administration used to specifically mention the theme to be followed for the farewell party. Lastly, the students are solely responsible for bringing any expensive accessories and/or jewellery; the college does not take responsibility for any such accessory being damaged or stolen.
