Q:   Is TISS Mumbai a good option?


TISS Mumbai is ranked 98 by NIRF 2023 under the University category and 201-250 in QS World University Rankings 2023. Ranked 60 and 99 among the 'University' and 'Overall' categories by the NIRF 2022, TISS is one of the most popular universities for education in the field of Social Sciences. For the past three years, the average and the highest package of the institute also range between INR 20 LPA and INR 30 LPA which also makes it a good option w.r.t placements.

To get admission to TISS Mumbai, candidates must have valid score in entrance tests. The accepted entrance exams are  TISSNET, CUET, NEET PG, and others. 

Q:   What is TISS Mumbai famous for?


Tata Institute of Social Sciences was established as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work in 1936. The deemed university is approved by UGC (University Grants Commission) and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). Tata Institute of Social Sciences is famous for its infrastructure and the various facilities it offers to students. The deemed university has a big campus with a large conference hall and offers various facilities like canteen, transportation services, and provides various other facilities to students.

Q:   Is TISS Mumbai a private or a government university?


TISS Mumbai is a recognised as a Deemed University by the Government of India and is approved by UGC (University Grants Commission). Being recognised by the Government of India, the fee for various courses at Tata Institute of Social Sciences is not much. Even if the students find the fee a little high, they can apply for the various scholarships provided by the deemed university. Some of the scholarships offered by the university are Taksheel Foundation Meritorious scholarship, Cognizant Foundation Meritorious fellowship, Allana Foundation aid for Muslim Minorities, and others.

Q:   How can I get admission to TISS Mumbai MBA?


Although TISS Mumbai does not provide an MBA course, it does give an alternate programme called the Executive Post Graduate Diploma (EPGD), which is comparable in concept and structure to the MBA programme.

  1. Clear the Central University Entrance Test (Postgraduate) : Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the National Entrance Test (CUET PG 2024), which evaluates aptitude in areas such as general knowledge, analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, and English proficiency.

  2. Online Personal Interview (OPI): Shortlisted candidates proceed to the second stage, involving an online personal interview (OPI). The OPI assesses the candidate's suitability for the MBA programme and their motivation to pursue it.

  3. Successfully complete both stages: By successfully completing both the CUET PG and the OPI, candidates can secure admission into TISS Mumbai's MBA programme.

  4. Note the importance of eligibility criteria and CUET PG score: Meeting the eligibility requirements and obtaining a good score in TISSNET MBA 2023 significantly enhance the chances of being shortlisted for the interview stage.

Q:   Is MBA course available in TISS Mumbai?


TISS Mumbai doesn't offer a traditional MBA programme, but it does have an alternative option called the EPGDODCL. Specifically, TISS Mumbai offers an EPGDODCL programme focusing on Organization Development and Change. EPGDODCL programme is taught in English. To be eligible for admission, candidates are required to have a minimum of three years of work experience after completing their undergraduate degree. Additionally, candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree that extends for at least 3 years or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university. This degree can be obtained through various educational pathways, such as 10+2+3, 10+2+4, 10+2+2+1 (with a bridge course), or any other educational pattern that meets the prerequisite of completing 15 years of formal education. EPGDODCL programme provided by TISS Mumbai is a 14-months programme.

Q:   How can I get admission to the MA programme at TISS?


To get admission to the MA programme at TISS the candidates need to make sure they have a graduate degree of minimum 3 or 4 years duration from a recognised university. Candidates completing all requirements of their final year degree by June 13, 2023, are also eligible to apply. To be eligible, candidates must have a relevant degree, complete all final year requirements by June 13, and submit their degree certificate and grade/mark sheet by August 31, 2023, or their provisional admission will be cancelled. Candidates also need to make sure they clear TISSNET exam conducted by the University.


Q:   Can I get direct admission to TISS?


TISS does not provide direct admission for its programmes. Instead, candidates are evaluated through a comprehensive selection process that includes entrance exams, interviews, and/or group discussions. This process assesses candidates based on their academic qualifications, performance in entrance exams, and programme-specific criteria. All applicants are required to meet the eligibility criteria and actively participate in the designated admission procedure. It is essential for candidates to familiarise themselves with the specific requirements and diligently follow the established process to maximise their chances of securing admission to TISS.


Q:   How should I prepare for TISSNET Online Assessment conducted for admission to TISS Mumbai?


Candidates who will appear for the TISSNET Online Assessment must follow the important tips for preparation mentioned below:

  1. Know the programme: Candidates must ensure to familiarise themselves with the programme they have applied for. Canidadates must know the programme structure and learning areas. 2. The latest events: Candidates must stay updated with the current events happening related to the programme applied for. Candidates must focus on reading articles and newspapers. 3. Enhance communication skills: Extempore and Personal Interview round assesses the candidate's communication skills. To enhance the skill, candidates must practice by preparing for common interview questions like Brief about yourself, inspiration to pursue this field of study, strengths and weaknesses; How to improve the weakness? , Long term career goals? , how to handle stress and pressure and so forth. 4. Listening skills: Along with the communication skills, candidates must focus on enhancing listening skills. 5. No use of non-verbal communication 6. Review DAF: Candidates must read their Detail Application Form before appearing for Online Assessment rounds. 7. Do not fake academic achievements 8. Ask questions: The better way to end the conversation is by asking questions to panel members related to programme applied for to demonstrate candidate's interest in the programme.

Q:   How is TISSNET aggregate score calculated for final admission to TISS Mumbai?


Candidates' aggregate score is calculated on the basis of the TISSNET score and performance in Online Assessment rounds. Candidates will be given final weightage on the basis of which the seats will be offered. As per the TISS notification, the weightage for each round is as follows:

Stage 1: TISSNET exam: It will be centre-based objective-type test with a maximum of 100 marks. The weightage for the TISSNET exam is final computation will be 50 percent.

Stage 2: Online Assessments: OA round will be divided into two components: Extempore and Online Interview. In the extempore round candidates will have to give a reflection on a given topic. The extempore is for 100 marks and carries the weightage of 20 percent. Whereas Personal Interview will also be of 100 marks and will carry a weightage of 30 percent.

To apply for M.A. In Applied Psychology at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), you can follow the below-given steps: Visit the official website of TISS and register yourself. Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai offers the best placements for the HRM programme. Acoording to the placement record the the highest and average package offered was INR 49 LPA and INR 27.22 LPA,  respectively. Further,  66 students participated during TISS Mumbai placements 2023, of which 64 students received the annual package of INR 20 LPA and above. Additionally,  41% of the batch received PPOs at TISS Mumbai in 2023. The top recruiters of TISS Mumbai in 2023 included Accenture, Aditya Birla Group, Asian Paints, Flipkart, Kotak Mahindra Bank,  etc..

Placements: Excellent placements. 100% of the students in the batch get placed; more than 6 students get a package of 25 lacs. The average package is 20 lakhs, and our college fee is 1.2 lakhs, which is the best return on investment. Recruiting companies include ABB, HUL, Citi Bank, etc. Getting an internship is very easy at our college. Management and decision-making roles are offered.
Infrastructure: The college is in a very rich area; even Kapoor's house is visible from the college, and it has a very colorful campus life. Wi-Fi is available in the library and on campus. Hostels are on campus, and the facilities provided are top-class. Mess food is of the highest quality. Medical facilities are available in college, if someone is injured.

I am very happy to complete my graduation from Tata Institute of Social Science.
Placements: 70 percent of students got the internship and got placement after completing the course. Packages range from INR 50k to INR 70k. Many companies provide the jobs. As an intern, I learned how to work in hotels and about the hospitality industry.
Infrastructure: The college has a great kitchen and bar, and the classroom is very big, where students learn discipline and gain knowledge. The college facility was good in nature, and the canteen has good-quality food. We also got good information about food, and the medical facilities were good.
Faculty: The teacher and their experience were good. They have good skills and a very helpful nature. They also have good communication skills and great experience. They make students industry-ready, teach good skills, and also share their own experience. The exam was very difficult because they teach very well.

No, TISS Mumbai doesn't accept Common Admission Test or CAT for admission to its MBA programme. TISS-NET is conducted to shortlist candidates for stage 2 based on the TISS-NET score and the ratio on the number of seats unannounced for individual programmes under each category.

It's a moderate-level exam. A candidate with good General Awareness, Aptitude and English can score well in TISS NET exam. Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai conducts TISS National Entrance Test (TISSNET). It is a university-level entrance exam.

The entrance exam is held in CBT mode and the exam paper comprises questions from English Proficiency, Mathematical Skills & Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness.
