The list of selected candidates and other important dates are updated on the official website. Students can apply for more than one course. Admissions are based only on entrance tests. There are no direct admissions to the college. 

Exams in St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi

As per the course, students must keep in mind the syllabus. Apart from the course papers, there are General Elective Papers and Discipline Elective Papers. The General Elective Paper can be any subject other than honours, while the Discipline Elective Paper relates to his/her honours subject. There are five credit points for theory and one credit point for practical for every course paper. General Elective Paper (GE Paper) accounts for two credit points. Students have to obtain a certain credit score to be promoted for further semesters. These points depend on the marks obtained by the students in the tests/ examinations provided. 

Internal Exams- The internal exams in St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi are of 20 marks which add up to the remaining 80 marks of the University exams to form a total of 100. These also include the projects and extra-curricular work (assignments/ reports etc.) marks. 

Projects/ Extra-Curricular work- Projects and extra-curricular work take place in between semesters. These may include regular assignments, presentations or laboratory tasks. 

University Exams- The external exam or the university exam in St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi consists of 80 marks. Since it is an autonomous college, the exams are subjected to the college itself. 

Registration for the Exams- Registration is required for all external exams/ semesters. For registration, students have to get a challan from the college office, which they can get issued after submitting a very minimal charge. Each course has a different registration fee. The students can then submit the challan along with the required amount in the college bank. A part of the challan is left with the students for future reference. 

Duration of the Exams - Since the courses in St. Xavier’s College are semester based, the internal exams are conducted three months after the beginning of every semester. For a three-year course, there are six semesters and for a two-year course, there are four semesters. Each semester is of six months and students need to clear every semester to be promoted. In case a student is unable to clear any paper in the respective semester, they can carry it forward and attempt to clear it in the next semester. They need to score passing marks in all the papers in the final semester examination to be considered passed. For students who are unable to clear any paper in the end semester examination, they have to repeat an entire year.
