Amity allows us to enjoy a lot of extra-curricular activities, value-adding to my undergraduation, says Abhit
I opted for Commerce in Class 11 and 12, being absolutely clueless as to what I want to do in the future. Although studies were always important, I was more into sports, extracurricular and other activities that go beyond education. I played States for Basketball. I was in a boarding school in Dalhousie, so all my memories from these years are nothing short of amazing and have derived from there. All the little antics and troubling teachers are what have made that time extremely memorable for me. In Class 12, I ended up getting 80 per cent, leaving my whole family in a shock as to how I could score such amazing marks. I remember the celebrations lasting one whole week with four cake cutting ceremonies. For the future, I did not know what I should opt for as I knew after Bachelors, I would like to pursue acting. Therefore, my cousin suggested BJMC at Amity University, Gurugram. Being a reputed college, with a good name, my father decided to send me here. So here I am, pursuing my undergraduate studies and a lot of extra-curricular achievements.
Cracking the admissions was not such a complicated or lengthy procedure at Amity University Gurugram for my specific course, there was an interview, my basic knowledge was tested and it went pretty well. Therefore, there were not a lot of tests to give only. For the basic test, what I had learned in Class12 only came so I did not have to take any coaching classes for its preparation. It all went extremely smoothly. Whereas, I did not apply for any colleges as this was the only college I had applied at knowing I would get into it and that I would be pursuing Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication from Amity University Gurugram only.
I have been enjoying my college time a lot because of all the places I am involved at. In my first week here at Amity University Gurugram, I auditioned for Ek Awaaz-Amity’s Dramatic Society. I was glad that the team appreciated my hard work, my talent and my acting skills because I got through. From being a part of many plays, I also found a team, a family. I spent most of my first year with all my seniors who were a part of the team. Through them, I got to learn a lot, whether it is in acting or just managing events because as a part of the team, we were doing many college events under the Dean Of Student Welfare office, as well. Once they passed out, it was extremely sad for me but through my lessons from them, I started giving more inputs to the Team Ek Awaaz and then I decided to join SHAKTI, a social welfare club of the university focusing on women mainly. I was the first Male member of the club and my event management skills helped us achieve a lot. In fact, in the summer vacations before my second year, I even took an initiative to my hometown, in Jammu. This way, SHAKTI started branching out. In my second year, I focused on doing and managing events for Shakti and the University. It has been extremely eventful and I have learned how to manage events even under pressure, something which is not easy at all. I think I have done quite a lot in my two years here, whether it comes to events or the clubs I have been a part of. I don’t believe there I anything more left to do, anymore. When it comes to classes, I make it a point to attend all of them and enjoy learning more about Journalism. My college experience has not only matured me as an individual but opened my eyes as to what I could pursue in the future, as well.
