What is a Good Score in CUET?

Achieving a good score in CUET 2026 is important for candidates looking to pursue the undergraduate or integrated course of their choice in their target university that accepts the CUET score. There are two different types of CUET UG scores, Marks and Percentiles. The CUET marks of a candidate are the actual marks scored by the student in the opted test subject. On the other hand, the CUET percentile depicts a candidate's performance in the UG test subject. It describes this by comparing a candidate's performance with others. Each CUET college has its own benchmark for the NTA score, which is mentioned in their course-wise CUET cut-off list, based on which candidates get admission.

Check out this page to know what an ideal CUET score is and how to calculate one's scores based on the CUET scorecard. What is a Good Score in CUET?

A good CUET score depends on a candidate's target university, course, and cut off. The CUET Total Marks per subject is 250. However, the total marks for a candidate depend on the number of subjects selected during the registration process. CUET Universities like Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have higher cut off marks, usually between 200 and 235 marks (per subject) for competitive undergraduate courses.

General CUET UG Score Range:

If we consider an ideal situation, where a candidate selects 5 CUET UG subjects, the total marks per candidate will be 1250. Although there is no fixed Good CUET score for all universities, the following ranges can be considered:

  • Very Good Score: 900 and above (98-99 percentile)
  • Good Score: 700-850 (90+ percentile)
  • Average Score: 600-700 (80+ percentile)
  • Low Score: 400-650 (<80 percentile)

Factors Affecting What's Considered a Good CUET Score 2026

Candidates aiming for the top CUET central universities and other participating colleges must understand that a candidate's score in CUET depends on many factors. Check out the space below to know the factors influencing CUET 2026 scores:

  • Difficulty Level of the Exam: The difficulty level of the exam has a huge impact on the CUET scores of students, as difficult papers may have a low CUET cut off.
  • Subject Mapping: The UG subjects opted for by a candidate have a significant impact on their CUET scores.
  • Target University and Programme: Top universities may require a high CUET score for competitive undergraduate courses.
  • Course Popularity: Usually, popular courses have a high cutoff requirement due to more students participating in their admission process.
  • Competition: The number of applicants appearing and their overall performance can have a huge impact on the cut off marks.
  • Category-wise Reservation Criteria: Each university may have different cut off marks for the unreserved and reserved categories.

How to Calculate CUET UG Scores?

NTA uses both raw scores and percentile scores to calculate a candidate's score. To determine an individual's score for admission, their raw score is converted into a percentile score through a normalization process. Raw Score is the actual score obtained by a candidate. It is calculated by considering the number of correct and incorrect answers given by the candidate. The Percentile Score shows the performance of a candidate by comparing it with others. It shows the percentage of candidates who scored lower than a particular candidate.

According to the CUET exam pattern, there are three sections in the CUET, and candidates get 60 minutes to complete the exam. Check out the table to know the number of questions asked in each section and their Maximum Marks.

How to convert Raw Score into Percentile?

CUET percentile is calculated by following these steps:

  • Find the total number of candidates (N) who appeared for the exam.
  • Arrange all the candidates from one shift in decreasing order based on their CUET raw scores.
  • For a given candidate with a raw score (T), count the number of candidates (M) who have scored equal to or lower than T.
  • Apply the following formula to calculate the percentile score (P):

P = M*100/N
