What's considered a Good CUET Score? Students seeking admission at CUET-participating universities often ask this question. From this article, know the ideal/good CUET score to get admission into top universities. Also, learn how to calculate CUET score and percentile, and factors affecting a good CUET score.

What is a Good Score in CUET?

What is a Good Score in CUET?

Good CUET Score 2025: The National Testing Agency conducts the Common University Entrance Test (UG) for admissions to undergraduate courses at participating central, state, private, government, and deemed universities/colleges across India. The exams for the 2025-2026 academic year have been successfully administered between May 13 and June 03, 2025, in computer-based test mode in around 300 cities in India and abroad. For CUET 2025 admissions, candidates must attain a good CUET score to pursue their preferred UG course in their dream university. Before getting into what's considered a good CUET score, candidates must know that there are two different CUET UG 2025 scores: marks and percentiles. CUET marks show the actual marks obtained by a student in test subjects, while the percentile shows a candidate's performance by comparing it with the other candidates.

As exams are over, the National Testing Agency will soon release the CUET UG 2025 Answer Key & Response Sheet for candidates to calculate their CUET score. Based on the calculated percentile score and university-wise CUET 2025 Cut Off, candidates will be able to gain admission to their target CUET participating university. NTA will declare the CUET UG 2025 results at cuet.nta.nic.in, tentatively in July 2025, after which universities will release the separate CUET cut off list.

What is a Good Score in CUET?

A good CUET score is subject to a candidate's target university, preferred course, and cut-off trend. According to the CUET exam pattern, the CUET Total Marks per subject is 250; thus, the total marks for a candidate depend on the number of subjects opted for during the CUET registration process. Top CUET Universities like Delhi University (DU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) demand higher scores, usually between 200 to 235 marks (per subject) for admission to competitive programmes.

General CUET UG Score Range:

If we consider an ideal situation, where a candidate has selected 5 CUET UG subjects, the total marks per candidate will be 1250. Although there is no fixed Good CUET score for all universities, the following ranges can be considered:

  • Very Good Score: 900 and above (98-99 percentile)
  • Good Score: 700-850 (90+ percentile)
  • Average Score: 600-700 (80+ percentile)
  • Low Score: 400-650 (<80 percentile)

Factors Affecting What's Considered a Good CUET Score 2025

Candidates preparing for CUET UG exam and aiming for the top CUET central universities and other participating colleges must understand that a candidate's CUET score depends on many factors. Check out the space below to know the factors influencing CUET 2025 scores:

  • Difficulty Level of the Exam: The difficulty level of the exam has a huge impact on the CUET scores of students, as difficult papers may have a low CUET cut off.
  • Target University and Programme: Top universities may require a high CUET score for competitive undergraduate courses.
  • Course Popularity: Usually, popular courses have a high cutoff requirement due to more students participating in their admission process.
  • Competition: The number of applicants appearing and their overall performance can significantly impact cut-off marks.
  • Subject Combination: The choice of subjects can also influence the scoring system, as some subjects might have higher competition than others.
  • Category-wise Reservation Criteria: Each university may have different cut off marks for the unreserved and reserved categories.

Students must note that the score needed for admission is heavily influenced by the number of applicants and the raw score. A higher CUET score increases your chances of gaining admission into top-tier universities.

How to Calculate CUET UG Scores?

In the CUET UG 2025, both raw scores and percentile scores are used: Raw Score is the actual score obtained by a candidate based on the number of correct and incorrect answers given. On the other hand, the Percentile Score indicates a candidate's relative performance compared to others. It shows the percentage of candidates who scored lower than a particular candidate. To determine an individual's score for admission, their raw score is converted into a percentile score through a normalization process. This conversion is done to easily compare the CUET UG score of candidates for the same subject, who have appeared on different exam days in different shifts and exam centres.

According to the CUET UG Exam Pattern, there are three sections in the CUET, and candidates get 60 minutes to complete the exam. Refer to the table below to know about the number of questions asked in each section and their Maximum Marks.

All options are found to be correct (+) 5 marks (if the question is attempted)
None of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped (+) 5 marks (if the dropped question is attempted)

How to convert Raw Score into Percentile?

CUET percentile is calculated separately for each exam session. The process follows these steps:

  • Identify the total number of candidates (N) who appeared for the exam.
  • All candidates from a specific shift are arranged in decreasing order based on their CUET raw scores.
  • For a given candidate with a raw score (T), count the number of candidates (M) who have scored equal to or lower than T.
  • Apply the following formula to calculate the percentile score (P):

P = M*100/N
