Is 700 a Good Score in CUET?

Yes, 700 is considered a good score in CUET. If a candidate scores 700 marks in Common University Entrance Test, they can get admission to many top central universities accepting CUET score. However, it is possible only if the candidate meets the CUET eligibility criteria of their target university, along with the age limit & CUET subject combination. To check the course-wise subject requirements of a university/college, candidates can visit official NTA CUET website or Shiksha page.

Benefits of Good CUET Score

If a candidate scores good or high marks in CUET UG exam, their chances of getting admission to top CUET central universities like DU, BHU, JMI, JNU, BBAU, AU, etc., increase. Some of the participating colleges/universities also offer scholarships and financial assistance to candidates with high scores in CUET. However, students must note that the good score or high score of each college differs depending on many factors.

Factors Affecting What's Considered a Good CUET Score

Candidates aiming for the top CUET central universities and other participating colleges must understand that a candidate's score in CUET depends on many factors. These are the factors influencing CUET scores.

  • Exam's Difficulty Level: It has a huge impact on CUET scores of students, as difficult papers may have a low CUET cut off.
  • Subject Mapping: The UG subjects opted for by a candidate have a significant impact on their CUET scores.
  • Target University and Programme: Top universities may require a high CUET score for competitive undergraduate courses.
  • Course Popularity: Usually, popular courses have a high cutoff requirement because more students apply for them.
  • Competition: The number of applicants appearing and their overall performance can have a huge impact on the cut off marks.
  • Category-wise Reservation Criteria: Each university may have different cut off marks for the unreserved and reserved categories.

How to Calculate CUET UG Scores?

There are two different types of CUET UG scores, Marks and Percentiles. NTA uses both to calculate a candidate's score. Raw Score is the actual score obtained by a candidate. It is calculated by considering the number of correct and incorrect answers given by the candidate. The Percentile Score shows the performance of a candidate by comparing it with others. It shows the percentage of candidates who scored lower than a particular candidate. To determine an individual's score for admission, their raw score is converted into a percentile score through a normalization process.

According to the CUET exam pattern, there are three sections in the CUET, and candidates get 60 minutes to complete the exam. Check out the table to know the number of questions asked in each section and their Maximum Marks.

CUET Maximum Marks

Section I (Language)

Section II (Domain Subject)

CUET UG Marking Scheme

Check out the table below to know how CUET UG exam papers are evaluated.

Case Scenario Marks Awarded/Deducted
Correct answer or the most appropriate answer (+) 5 marks
Incorrect Answer (-) 1 mark
Unanswered/Marked for Review 0 mark
More than one option is found to be correct (+) 5 marks (if any of the correct options in marked)
All options are found to be correct (+) 5 marks (if the question is attempted)
None of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped (+) 5 marks (if the dropped question is attempted)

How to convert Raw Score into Percentile?

CUET percentile is calculated by following these steps:

  • Find the total number of candidates (N) who appeared for the exam.
  • Arrange all the candidates from one shift in decreasing order based on their CUET raw scores.
  • For a given candidate with a raw score (T), count the number of candidates (M) who have scored equal to or lower than T.
  • Apply the following formula to calculate the percentile score (P):

P = M*100/N
