GD sessions and multiple presentations during the course helped me overcome the fear of public speaking, says Diksha

I was not very sure about taking Commerce in senior secondary education as it included subjects such as Accounts, Economics, Business studies and all these subjects require a lot of labour. I was more keen about learning Law, as I love the arguments taking place on news channels. All these subjects require a practical base. So, you need a lot of concentration to have a command on these subjects. But what made me choose Commerce as my stream were my mentors, who suggested that Commerce and Law would make an excellent combination. I always wanted to pursue my career in Law and the key to such a career is having a good knowledge of all these subjects. So in Class 11, I chose commerce and started gaining interest. After completion of my schooling, it was time to select a course and I was a bit confused between Commerce and Law. But with the guidance of my parents I chose BCom(Hons) as my graduation course. For BCom(Hons), I had many university options but I decided to choose between Delhi University and Indraprastha University. I finally chose Indraprastha University for pursuing my graduation as I could get into one of the top 5 colleges i.e, JIMS Kalkaji - Jagannath International Management School.

Talking about my strategy to crack the entrance exam, I was very focused. I was not very sure about my Class 12 board results as I was not able to perform well in exams.  So I knew well in advance that I need to perform well in my entrances to secure a seat in a good college. To make this happen, I decided to undergo coaching classes where the teachers taught us tips and tricks to solve complex problems. Also, they made us practice sample test papers so we can analyse our weak points and gradually improve them. Since, Indraprastha University was my priority, so I put extra efforts to crack the CET exam. Apart from CET, I was also preparing for Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) and Bharati Vidyapeeth University Common Entrance Test (BVPCET) in parallel. I was able to clear all the exams and decided to move ahead with IP University. I was allotted JIMS Institute in Kalkaji which happens to be one of the top-most institutes affiliated to IP University.

The institute offers BBA and BCom (Hons) for graduation and PGDM courses. As they say, “Things end but memories last forever.” Such were the memories of my college life. I started my journey at JIMS in August 2017. The first day was the Orientation Day for freshers, which made me even more excited about this new journey. With all the excitement, there was nervousness also which I overcame with my new friends and supporting teachers. The faculty members were so friendly that you will never feel awkward ever talking to them, they are always on the frontline to help students.

We also used to have GD sessions and a lot of presentations during our course which helped us to overcome the fear of public speaking. The first year was the most precious and memorable of all the years in my college. I made some great friends for life.

The most alluring thing which the college provided was Zest-The Annual Cultural Festival that taught us to work in a team. There are other events too such as Star Night and Anugoonj for both students and teachers. The fresher’s party and farewell are events of great fun.

The internships are an important part of the curriculum. They let the students experience practical exposure to corporate life and also make them learn a lot of new skills. I was quite focused on my Internship as it gave an edge to my critical thinking and research skills. It is mandatory for all the students to undergo an internship programme in 5th semester of the curriculum

Talking about job placements, a lot of companies come in the last six months of college. Since companies offer jobs for graduates so, you can’t expect high packages.

The day, when my college life has almost come to an end, I looked back on this beautiful journey of my college life. JIMS made me a completely changed and a confident person ready to face the outside world through its interactive guest lectures and industrial visits.

JIMS has been a great institution in accelerating my performance and boosting self-confidence in me. No matter wherever I go, I would always remember JIMS as an integral and the initial part of my career building. Life at JIMS Kalkaji is full of fun and learning.
