The NorthCap University offers platform to students to experiment, experience and learn, says Divyam Puniani
I have always had an interest in Science stream’s subjects. During summer vacations, I would look for Science experiments to do at home and also read several books and articles on the subject. I had a great interest in Science fiction movies, too and was an active participant in Science Olympiads. When I was in Class 10, I started gaining interest in how specific phenomenon, as well as machinery, worked and how certain products were actually made from scratch and processed. This curiosity lead me to the decision of opting for the Science stream in Class 11 to form a basis for Engineering and deciding that this might be something I wanted to pursue as a career.
Before the beginning of Class 12 board exams, a visit from a distant relative in the USA introduced me to the concept of the supply chain. And, about how it is a flow of processes of goods and services and includes all processes in converting raw materials to finished goods, clarifying my goals and ambition of stepping into this industry. I researched more on this field, learning what qualifications I needed as well as gaining an insight into what it really was about. Moreover, after this I decided to pursue an undergraduate program in either Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
I had applied for multiple Engineering institutes across the country and even managed to crack a few of admission tests. One criterion for my selection of universities or colleges was the proximity to my home since my family wasn’t keen on sending me far for my studies. One of the universities fulfilling that criterion was The NorthCap University. A lot of my relatives and family friends had graduated from the University and were also doing really well in their respective fields, owing to the facilities and placement opportunities the university offer. In terms of universities close to my home, The NorthCap University was always our first choice. The University has an extensive and systematic admission procedure, and as such, I did not have to face any trouble while applying to the University. The staff members were really helpful at that time and made us comfortable during the admission process.
My college days would involve attending the classes regularly and hanging out with friends. Apart from that, I liked to go to the library to read books on a wide variety of topics and learn more. My favourite subjects throughout the programme have been Operations Research and Supply Chain Management, and I never missed even a single class of these subjects. Also, the University offers various open elective programmes where we can study courses from different departments. Taking advantage of the opportunity, I learnt various other courses, which I subsequently gained interest in such as Python as well as Financial Management.
My extracurricular activities in the college involved being a core member of the social service club of the college, Yukti. Since I have been doing social work as a kid, as well as being a coordinator for various events held in the college such as the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (ICETMIE), TEDx, the annual college fest Momentum, as well as participating in events conducted by the American Society of Quality (ASQ). The college also hosts seminars and guest lectures from experts in various fields from different parts of the country as well as abroad. These seminars broaden one’s mind and impart much learning and key insights into what is happening and trending in different disciplines.
The NorthCap University also boasts some of the best lab facilities, and I used to go during the breaks to learn a skill or two from the friendly lab assistants over there. This helped me to gain practical insight into what I was studying and make learning even more fun.
If given a chance, I would be honoured to represent the University as well as the nation at the international level, given a history of how my seniors won the Delta Cup Tournament held in China a few years ago.
My college experience has changed me a lot, both personally and professionally. Over time, it has made me more independent, as well as confident. The University offers a platform to students to experiment, experience and learn to grow as a better person with leadership qualities.
