Revolutionising the world with the emergence of technologies – AI/ ML, IoT, and Cyber Security, by Dr Saurabh Shah

The technological revolution has changed the entire digital landscape and the Data Science, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning are considered to be the most influential ones. Artificial Intelligence has been the striking buzzword of the century and the key driver for increasing the revenue of industries/ unicorns in almost all the domains and will continue to bring the revolution with the realisation of its potential to the fullest. It has become the mainstream technology supplementing other emerging technologies/sectors like IoT (Internet of Things), Robotics, Big Data, Cyber Security so that it can leverage smarter products and services, hence generating more value.

It is being used widely in almost all the allied sectors, let it be the Medical, Banking, Education, Industry, Automobile or Agriculture. Autonomous Driving, Virtual Assistance, Automated Surgery, Delivery through drones, Smart Home, and Smart Factory are a few of the examples which show the confluence of technologies. The solutions/products developed using these technologies help decision-makers to make smart decisions because of the learning capabilities of AI over a period of time in different situations. With the abundance of data generated every day, processing these data into meaningful information and visualising insights have enormous significance in making decisions where Data Science plays a vital role and contributes to the discipline of AI.

Considering the prospects and the huge demand for skilled professionals in the emerging technologies, the GSFC University started BTech Computer Science & Engineering with two specializations, namely - Data Science, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning;  and, IoT & Automation; and, added the third specialisation i.e. Cyber Security from Academic Year 2021-22. It is promoted by GSFC Ltd, a six decades-old industrial giant whose strong vision is to establish a distinct University with the objective of making industry-ready graduates with cutting-edge knowledge in all the frontier of development.

With the state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities, exposure of working on industrial problems is given in the Research labs developed such as Supercomputer Lab (PARAM Shavak DL-GPU) & Design IoT Lab, sponsored and supported by Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST), Department of Science & Technology (DST). Compulsory industrial internship of four weeks in every semester, Access to GSFC Ltd laboratories and 22 process plants, Industry Driven Curriculum, Strong industry linkages, Courses taught by industry experts, Support for startup and innovation through GUIITAR (GSFC University Incubation Innovation Technology and Applied Research) Council, Holistic Development through different Student Managed Clubs and Student Chapters are the key USPs of Computer Science & Engineering programme.
