Entrance Tests at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi

Admissions to all the courses in St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi are based on the previously qualified examination marks and entrance tests conducted by the college. The entrance test may further consist of an aptitude test, group discussions, micro presentations, analytics round, entrepreneurship round and personal interview depending on the choice of the subject made by the student. In terms of establishing its own courses, arranging instruction, devising evaluation methods, conducting exams, and granting degrees/diplomas, the college has autonomy. Thus, the Personal Interview round and the group discussion round for admissions are solely subjected to the college and not the University.

For interviews, students must keep in mind some of the following points:

1) They must come in proper formal uniforms with clean shoes and ironed clothes.

2) Candidates must be punctual as it is the first thing the interviewer notices there.

3) They must be aware and clear about the choice of the subject they are making and have some knowledge regarding that.

4) Before interviews, students are advised to visit the campus first so that they don’t end up rushing here and there at the time of the interview.

5) Candidates must carry all the required documents with them- one set of original and one set of Xerox.

Interview round, however, is not compulsory for admission in every department. Neither does Micro presentations, group discussions or analytics round etc. For some courses, admissions are done directly after the declaration of results and merit list by the college. Interview rounds are more specific to Post Graduation courses, Vocational courses, Professional courses and Management courses. A group of faculty members along with the HOD sit to interview the candidate. This, however, must not scare the candidate as it is just another round in the process of admission. Very basic questions are asked to the students such as questions regarding their family background, interest and reason for the choice of the subject they made. This helps the teacher understand the interest of the student in the provided course. The institution follows the reservation system notified by the State Government and being a minority educational institution, gives preference to Christian/ Catholic Students. But the process of admission remains the same for all categories and all genders.

Some of the frequently asked questions in the Personal Interview round are:

1) What interests you more about this college?

2) Why do you want to study this particular subject?

3) Tell us about yourself.

4) What are your academic strengths and weaknesses?

5) How could you contribute to this college?

6) What are your achievements?

7) What are your interests or hobbies?

8) What are you currently reading/ involved in?

9) What do you look up for when searching for an institution?

10) In 10 years, where do you see yourself?

The candidates can practice taking help from the above and easily clear the interview.
