We Prepare Capsule Modules to Make Students Industry Ready, Says, JIMS Kalkaji Deputy Registrar & Associate Professor

In conversation with Shiksha.com, Dr Sandeepa Kaur, Deputy Registrar & Associate Professor talks about different methods used by JIMS Kalkaji to make students industry-ready. Dr Sandeepa Kaur has three postgraduate degrees namely M.Com, MBA and CFA. She is PhD. in finance from the Centre for Management Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia. 

She is presently associated as Deputy Registrar and Associate Professor (Finance & Risk Management) with Jagannath International Management School, Kalkaji, Delhi. She holds industry exposure working with ICICI Bank as - Credit Manager of SME Loan Appraisals. Her research interest includes Banking, Risk Management, Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Project Planning & Analysis.

1. What is the difference between the teaching methodology in your institute and others?

In our institution, the applications are described using live examples and the latest case-based analysis to help the students grasp the current state of business and industry. To comprehend the actual circumstances of business and industry, basic theoretical information is also described. In our institution, a smart board controlled by cutting-edge technology is employed.

2. How are you preparing your students to be Industry ready?

• We at JIMS understand that to make our students industry ready apart from the curriculum from time to time we interact with corporate experts from various domains and prepare CAPSULE Modules as per the industry needs on topics like Financial Modelling, SAP, HR Analytics etc.
• Also for catering for this, we do follow Corporate Executive Shadowing where our student’s spenda full day with an Executive from big corporate houses.
• Another aspect is that for the live experience, we have certain Simulation software tie-ups. Like for Finance Lab we have NSMART trading terminal Labs powered by the National Stock Exchange of India.

3. What qualities do your students have that other college students lack?

Due to our more sophisticated and advanced laboratories (NSMART Trading Terminal Labs, etc.), our students have a greater level of practical understanding. Students are guided by our faculty members from the Placement department in preparation for company interviews and written exams. Our pupils participate in extracurricular activities, which help them develop their self-confidence and communication abilities.

4. Do you think the curriculum of the courses taught in your institute fits the requirement of the industry?

Absolutely, I believe that the content of the courses offered at our institute meets the needs of the industry. The institution regularly reviews and modifies the course syllabi in accordance with business requirements. And as per the industry requirements, we do offer Capsule Modules to bridge the gap between Curriculum covered and Industry Specific requirements.

5. Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship?

Yes, without a doubt, innovation, technology, science, and entrepreneurship are welcomed at our campus. Students are encouraged to be creative by faculty members who are actively engaged in research, and we have an entrepreneur incubator to support students.
