Flight training is a course of study used when learning to pilot an aircraft. There is no conventional learning or copious studying involved when it comes to the pilot training course but a series of written and medical tests and hands-on practical flying time and instruction that help the student proceed through the course. Classroom training includes teachings on air regulations, aviation meteorology, etc. There are 60 flying/ pilot colleges in India which provides UG and PG courses in full-time and part-time mode of study. Among these, 58 are Private and the rest 2 are owned by Public/Government sector.

Flying/Pilot Training Colleges in India: Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for admission to Flying/Pilot Training Colleges in India are as follows:
For the Student Pilot License (SPL)
- The minimum age of the candidate must be 16 years.
- The candidate must have passed Class 10 examination.
- The candidate must clear all the fitness tests and have a bank guarantee of Rs 10,000.
- This is followed by an oral test and a Pilot Aptitude Test.
Note:Â Passing all this will get her or him through the college of their choice.
For the Private Pilot License (PPL)
- Theminimum age of the candidate must be 17 years.
- The candidate must have passed Class 12th examination.
- The candidate must possess a medical fitness test from Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME) or Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM).
For the Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
- The minimum age of the candidate must be between 18 and 30 years.
- The candidate must have studied Physics and Maths in their Class 12th.
Note:Â The newly revised laws by the Government of India has stated that the CPL is to be granted only with three prior years of PPL experience.
Also, if a student has to rise through the levels, starting from SPL, then they must:
- Complete 15 hours of dual flight time with the instructor.
- Clock in 60 hours of flying time of which 20 has to be solo and learn lessons on aviation and flying as well.
After acquiring the PPL, to be eligible for CPL, there has to be more 129 hours of flying, making it a total of 250 hours.Â

There are various exams accepted by flying/pilot training colleges in India are SSAT and TANATA. SSAT is ticket to Sha-Sahib Flying Academy and Sha-Sahib College of Engineering whereas TANATA will also help to get admission in to Sha-Sahib Flying Academy.
