On the teaching environment of the college the faculty members are cooperative and supportive, with many having strong academic backgrounds. The teaching style is generally considered good, with some professors being particularly helpful. The reviews also mention that the placement rates are reasonable with over 85% of students getting placed. Major companies such as Wipro, TCS, BASSETTI, and Capgemini visit the campus regularly.

Admission into the GMIT Kolkata BTech programme is through the merit secured in JEE Main or WBJEE entrance exam.
