Government Engineer Vishwesarraiya Post-Graduate College (Government EVPG College) is a co-educational, post-graduate institute that was established in 1981. The institute is affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur and is accredited by NAAC with B++ Grade. The institute was founded with the vision to impart quality and job-oriented education to the students of the tribal areas. Government EVPG College has created a special position as the lead college of the district since 2009. The institute has two study centres, including Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Pandit Sundar Lal Sharma Open University that collectively offer four UG, 12 PG, three PG diploma and one diploma course in various fields of Business & Management Studies, Humanities & Social Studies, Accounting & Commerce, IT & Software and Science.
The institute has a sprawling campus of 50 acre wherein all efforts are taken to sensitize the students towards environmental protection. The current student strength of the institute is 2,611. The curriculum of the institute includes internal tests, enhancement of ICT-aided teaching methods, video lectures, competitions, events, etc. to ensure moral and spiritual growth of the students. The entire institute is divided into five departments which are further divided into sub-departments as listed below:
- Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Computer Science, Microbiology)
- Arts (Sociology, Political Science, Economics, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Geography, History, Psychology, Home Science)

The college boasts of its active units, including NCC, NSS, Youth Red Cross Society and Divyang Cell whose members are dedicated to the welfare of the college. Youth Red Cross Society was established by the institute to organise blood group tests of all newly admitted students, health checkups and discussions and awareness. Divyang Cell was formed to meet the needs of disabled students studying in the college. In the session 2017-18, 14 professors of the college adopted these differently-abled students and decided to perform the duties of teacher guardian for them. In addition to this, the institute also has a Career Counselling and Placement Cell (CCPC) that facilitates both on and off-campus placement facilities for the students.
