Excellent college for GME.
Placements: About 80 percent of students are placed in various shipping companies like MMSI, M.Sc., BSM, Damico, and Zodiac, all selected as TME. At HIMT if you have good academics and speak well getting a placement is not difficult. Focus on the basics and have good communication skills that is the shortcut for placement.
Infrastructure: We have various labs like the basic skills workshop where we do hot works, welding and gas cutting, fitting, plumbing, etc. We have an Auxiliary Machines Workshop with equipment like pumps, valves, air compressors, heat exchange, purifiers, pistons, bearings, crankshafts, etc. We also have a fully equipped electrical lab, an operations ship on campus, and a VR lab.
Faculty: The curriculum focuses more on Marine Engineering components with practical aspects and hands-on experience. We also get an immersive learning experience through the virtual reality modules developed in-house at HIMT by the Chief Engineers and Master Mariners. Faculty members are the best in terms of core job experience and are seasoned teachers who understand our depth and teach effectively.
Other: The campus is always active with events. Shipping companies and DGS officials frequently visit the campus.

In my college, in my batch, 95% of students pass and are placed. Teachers are well-experienced.
Placements: About 95% of students are placed. Various shipping companies like Zodiac, BSM, Damico, Synergy, V Shipping, Berge Bulk, Maersk, MMSI, and Eastaway. All are selected as TME. In the GME course, the lowest package is $600, and the highest package is $1200 as a TME. Companies like PIL, Zodiac, etc., also recruit. As a TME in GME, 95% of students get internships. From TME to Chief Engineer in GME.
Infrastructure: We have various labs like the ship-in-campus where we learn practically about starting the main engine, auxiliary engine, and paralleling of generators, etc. We also have an auxiliary machine workshop. Classrooms are all AC rooms, and we have a library. In my hostel, it is well cleaned with good ventilation, individual bathrooms, and theatre facilities. Cooling drinking water is also provided. In the college, the menu changes every week. Nutritious food is provided. 24/7 medical facilities are available. Sports like cricket, football, basketball, pickleball, and gym facilities are well-maintained.
Faculty: Teachers have immense experience at sea. They share the challenges and experiences they face. All my teachers have more than 20 years of experience on ships, so they have strong knowledge and teaching skills. Teachers follow the curriculum. It makes students industry-ready with safety awareness and risk understanding. Teaching is good, so exams are easy and the pass percentage is high.
Other: I have an interest in the Merchant Navy. I have experience with machines related to this field, which is why I chose this course. The best thing about my course is that we also gain knowledge about trading because shipping, transportation, discipline, and time management are very important in this field. We celebrate festivals and events regularly, and the college crowd is around 1000+.

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) - Batch of 2026
3.4
4.0Placements3.0Infrastructure4.0Faculty2.0Crowd & Campus Life4.0Value for Money
The college provides a disciplined environment with limited exposure to outside life.
Placements: For the Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) course, students require sponsorship from a shipping company before enrollment. I was sponsored by Synergy Maritime for the role of deck cadet. HIMT College mainly provides training for sponsored cadets. It does not play a direct role in placements for DNS cadets. The course fee is around 5 LPA for the one-year DNS course. Other companies like Zodiac Maritime, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Seaspan Corporation, and GENCO recruit B.Sc. cadets. Placement details for other courses are as follows. B.Sc Nautical Science has around 75% placement. B.Tech Marine Engineering has around 90% placement. GP Rating has around 0–5% placement. ETO – placement is uncertain and luck-based. GME has around 80% placement
Infrastructure: HIMT has a modern but small campus. It has five hostel buildings, out of which four are old and badly maintained, while one is well maintained. Wi-Fi is not available. Classrooms have smart boards and air conditioning. The library is very bad, with no air conditioning and inadequate seating. Food quality is decent. Along with South Indian cuisine dominating the menu. Sports facilities are decent, and medical facilities are limited.
Faculty: Teachers are decent and have good practical knowledge and teaching skills. HIMT invites visiting faculty members with years of sea experience to familiarize students with life at sea. Smart boards are used for interactive teaching. Teachers are strict and focus strongly on discipline. The course curriculum is highly relevant and follows IMU guidelines strictly, which helps make students industry-ready. Exams are fairly easy, with almost a 100% passing percentage in DNS.
Other: The DNS course is one of the fastest and easiest ways to become a merchant navy officer. Campus life is limited, and fests are almost non-existent. Most events are competition-based rather than talent-oriented. The campus surroundings are decent with good natural scenery, but the college is far from the main city. Extracurricular activities are very limited.

It is a great learning environment with strong placement support.
Placements: I am part of the GME batch, placed in the Eastaway Shipping Company. Within 6 months, around 60–70% out of a batch of 40 students get selected. Companies such as Eastaway, BSM, Berge Bulk, and d’Amico were all selected as TME. At HIMT, if you have good academics and speak well, getting a placement is not difficult. The average package offered is $ 650–750 per month. Focusing on the basics and having good communication skills is the shortcut to placement.
Infrastructure: In the hostels, you get shared room space. You get your own bed, cot, pillow, and all covers, one study table and chair each, and one cupboard space. You also get all toiletries, uniform, and books on campus. The fees are inclusive of all this. A mess is also provided, where you get meals three times a day and coffee and tea twice a day.
Faculty: The curriculum focuses more on Marine Engineering components with practical aspects and hands-on experience. We also get a learning experience through virtual reality modules developed in-house at HIMT by Chief Engineers and Master's. Faculty members are the best in terms of core job experience.
Other: The best thing about the course is that we get hands-on experience with real-life situations on board. The campus crowd is multicultural and multilingual. It helps us learn the art of adaptability.

A good option for B.Tech mechanical engineers with the help of IMEC we can get a job easily.
Placements: I am studying Graduate Marine Engineering (1-year course after completing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering). After completing mechanical engineering, the best option is to enter the merchant navy career. The placement is excellent compared to other marine institutes. For GME there are batches fully sponsored by IMEC companies. So before joining the college we have a job in our hands.
Infrastructure: In our college, the lab facilities are very good where we can see all the machinery and we can learn things easily. Classrooms are fully air-conditioned. The hostel facility and food are also very nice. All kinds of sports activities, a good gym, and a swimming pool are also available.
Faculty: Faculty are very experienced. They are chief engineers, and second engineers. We can learn a lot from them. They also share their experience. We can easily know what we are going to do on board and we can prepare accordingly. There are two semesters for GME followed by 6 months of training on board.
