Presently, the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras offers around 100 UG, PG, joint degree, exchange and research programmes. It awards the degrees of BTech, BTech-MTech (Dual Degree), BS-MS (Dual Degree), Integrated MA, MTech, MBA, MSc, MS by Research and PhD in the fields of Engineering, Science, Architecture, Management, and Social Sciences. BTech is the flagship programme of IIT Madras and it is of four-year duration. The duration of PG programmes, such as MTech, MBA, MSc, etc. is two years each. IIT Madras in Chennai has secured the number 1 position for many consecutive years in the NIRF rankings for 'Engineering' and 'Overall' categories. The college placements are also good.

- Candidates must have taken Mathematics as a subject and at least two subjects among Biology, Chemistry, and Physics during their Class XII (or equivalent) exam.
- Admission is based on scores obtained in the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) examination.
- Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1998, to be eligible for the batch starting in July 2023, with five years age relaxation given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
- Candidates must have taken Mathematics as a subject and at least two subjects among Biology, Chemistry, and Physics during their Class XII (or equivalent) exam.
