Karnataka State Open University is a public university which was established in 1996. Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru, is a state public university that was established in 1996. The university is accredited with A+ Grade by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). Karnataka Open University is a Centre of Higher Education under the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system. Being a public university the fee is not very high.
KSOU is a state public Open University and was established by the act of the State Legislature in 1992, and was brought into force on 1st June 1996. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university is also approved by the DEC and AICTE (for MBA courses). It has a total of five schools namely The School of Humanities, The School of Social Sciences, The School of Commerce & Management, The School of Sciences, and The School of Education.

Candidates who have obtained Bachelor’s Degree of Three years duration without studying Cognate subjects can apply.
Candidates who have passed the three years B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com / B.Music / BYNS/ BBM/ Five years BAMS / LLB Degree Examination offering Sanskrit as Second Language or minor subject at the Degree level, provided they have obtained not less than above mentioned percentage of the maximum marks in the above language/ subject can apply.
Candidates who have passed the Vidwat Madhyama (B.A) Examination conducted by the Board of Sanskrit Education, Karnataka Government or Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bangalore can apply.
Graduates of any recognized University who have passed at least the Sahitya Examination conducted by the Board of Sanskrit Education, Govt. of Karnataka, Bangalore or any other Examination considered equivalent thereto such as ‘Kovida’ of Bharatiya Vidyabhavan, Bombay, ‘Kovida’ of Sanskrit Bharati, New Delhi, ‘Samartha’ of Bhasa Pracarinisabha, Chittor are also eligible to apply for this programme.
Graduates of any recognized University, who have passed the Post-Pre-University Diploma Examination in Sanskrit conducted by any University are also eligible to apply.
Graduates of any University recognized as equivalent thereto who have passed the Kannada Pandit Examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka are also eligible to apply.
