Edge Computing: The Future of Smart, Real-Time Technology by Prof. Abhishek Tyagi (CSIT)

As our world becomes increasingly connected through the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and smart devices, the need for faster and more efficient data processing is greater than ever. This is where Edge Computing steps in—a game-changing technology that brings data processing closer to the source.

Unlike traditional cloud computing, where data must travel to distant data centers, edge computing allows data to be processed near the devices that generate it. This results in low latency, reduced bandwidth usage, and real-time decision-making. Think of self-driving cars that need to make instant decisions or healthcare systems monitoring patients in real-time—edge computing makes this possible.

Key components include edge devices like sensors and smart gateways, local servers, and edge software that manages and analyses data. Industries such as automotive, retail, agriculture, telecommunications, and smart cities are rapidly adopting edge technology to enhance performance and efficiency.

While edge computing offers significant advantages, it also poses challenges around security, privacy, and data management. However, with the rise of technologies like 5G, Edge AI, and federated learning, these challenges are being actively addressed.

For students and aspiring tech professionals, edge computing is a promising field full of innovation. It combines elements of cloud computing, networking, AI, and cybersecurity—making it an exciting area for future careers and research.

In a hyperconnected future, edge computing is set to play a vital role in shaping how we interact with technology every day.

The Rise of Agentic AI and the Future of RPA by Dr. Ashima Arya, Assistant Professor, Department of CSIT

T he automation playground is being revolutionised by Agentic AI (AI that is capable of acting autonomously, making decisions, and adapting to its surroundings) which grows increasingly exponentially. Unlike traditional AI models, however, autonomous agents act beyond predicting and actually make decisions, alter workflows and work with humans or even machines to perform complex, goal-driven tasks. Supporting this change ? has been the inter-creative collaboration of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and agentic AI. RPA had been employed for some time to automate rules-driven repetitive work across domains but was constrained by static logic and formatted inputs. Additionally, with the progress of prompt engineering and memory, agentic AI can store past interactions, personalise responses, and get better performance in the long term. This transition from static bots to adaptive, learning agents represents a significant shift in the conception of digital labour . And today, RPA commingled with agentic AI is ushering in a new age of dynamic, intelligent automation. Agentic AI, enabled by large language models and real- time reasoning, is redefining RPA as smart task orchestration rather than rule-based automation.

These agents automatically respond to context, initiate workflows and access APIs without human intervention. They allow for continuous learning and decision making with memory?and multi-step reasoning. For example, consider a customer service situation where a bot will read customer complaints, find receive lynchpin data points, will trigger RPA bots relevant ones to update records and manage to even create the responses not supervised by any human. This is a progression from automation to autonomy. In time, agentic AI will not only empower businesses, it will become digital coworkers, providing quicker decision-making, enhancing agility and realigning the way businesses function. Agentic AI coupled with RPA will also enable hyper automation, boosting agility, scalability and operations intelligence. This convergence represents a transformation to self-sovereign digital ecosystems.

KIET Group of Institutions offers a great balance of academics, infrastructure, and campus life.

Placements: Placements are good for CSE and CS allied branches, and approximately 80-85% of students are placed. The average package for the CS allied branch is between 5 and 7 LPA, while the highest is 60 LPA. However, mostly students are recruited from companies like TCS, Wipro, and Capgemini. Placement training sessions, mock interviews, and coding workshops help students prepare well. However, core branches like ECE or mechanical have slightly fewer high-paying opportunities. Overall, with proper prepar...

Placements: I believe 60 to 70% of students get placed. The highest package is 60 LPA, which is off-campus, while the lowest is 2.5 LPA from the lower branches. Companies like TCS, Accenture, etc., and I’ve heard some students got placed in Airtel, with most placements in startups. Roles include software development and web development. The rest is good.
