B.Tech. in Marine Engineering - Batch of 2027

All about admission into Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies.
Placements: Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies provides 100% placements as it has its own partnership with a ship management company. After the completion of the course, with no obligations, the candidate will be placed on a ship and need to do sailing for 6 months, for which they will get a stipend of approximately 500 dollars as a junior engineer. After completing the cadetship, students can attend further class exams for promotions.
Infrastructure: Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies is one of the best institutes in terms of infrastructure. It has an academic block, an administration block, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a swimming pool, a lab block, workshops, a ship on campus, etc. Hostel cabins have enough space to accommodate two to three students. There is a Wi-Fi connection for each cabin. It has proper ventilation and has proper maintenance from time to time.
Faculty: Faculty members of the Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies are experienced professionals in the maritime sector. They teach cadets based on their experience and knowledge in the maritime industry. The course curriculum is managed by the Indian Maritime University, which includes all subjects regarding marine and engineering. The level of examinations conducted is as per requirements of the Indian Maritime Institute. Students have to clear all the subjects within the due course.
Other: I chose this course because it provides a different vision in life and helps to do something different from normal engineering colleges. This institute conducts fests and events on every festival and program. It also conducts extracurricular activities like swimming, sports, yoga, etc.

Excellent infrastructure, 100% placements, and state-of-the-art facilities.
Placements: At Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies (SIMS), in-house placements are offered to the parent company ESM. Therefore, everyone is placed in the college. Placement percentage is 100%. Most of the cadets get stipends in the range of 300 USD to 700 USD. In my course, all get an equal stipend of 400 USD. All cadets are placed at the parent company, ESM. As mentioned above, no internships are provided and placements are 100% assured by ESM. All students are offered the role of cadets in their respective branches (deck, engine, and electrical).
Infrastructure: The institute has an excellent infrastructure and world-class facilities. Wi-Fi is available on the campus whole day. Classrooms are fitted with electrical boards for better understanding. Library has all kinds of reference material for our purpose. Hostel is provided with 24X7 Wi-Fi. The quality of food available in the mess is good but the taste is not up to the mark. Doctor visits the campus twice a week and emergencies are forwarded directly to the hospital. Sports and games are good with a good college team. A gym facility is also available.
Faculty: Teachers are highly experienced mariners, most of them are ex-Indian navy guys. They are highly knowledgeable with excellent quality teaching. The course curriculum is designed by DG Shipping, thus making it relevant. It does make the students industry-ready. Semester exams are moderate in difficult, exams conducted by IMU. For ETO, no semester exams are there.
Other: I chose this course because it offers a job in merchant navy, with good salary. The best things are high teaching quality and placement assurance. The duration of the course can be improved for better knowledge. No events are conducted on the campus as it is strict out there. Extra-curricular activities include swimming, basketball, cricket, football, and gym. No scholarships are available.

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) - Batch of 2022

Review of Graduate Marine engineering from the Samunder Institute of Maritime Studies.
Placements: This college is having decent placements for the GME course. Around 30% of the students get placements at this college. The average package offered at the college was between 4-6 LPA. The top roles offered in our course were junior Marine engineer, gas engineer, QC engineer, etc. Students were not getting internships at this college.
Infrastructure: The college has a good infrastructure for the graduate marine engineering course. Facilities at the college were of good quality. Classrooms at the college were big and air-conditioned. Wi-Fi, labs, a library, sports and various other necessary facilities were available for the students. The college also provides hostel facilities to its students.
Faculty: The faculty at this college for the GME course were really well qualified and knowledgeable. Teachers were of a supportive nature and helped all the students with their doubts. The course curriculum for our course was relevant and made students naval industry-ready. Exams were also of a medium-difficulty level.

Review of Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies.
Placements: Students in our college become eligible for campus placements in the final year of their degree. It's in the seventh semester of B.Tech. Many companies offer placements here, like Maersk, British Petroleum, ESM, M.Sc., etc. The average salary package for the job is around Rs. 1 lakh starting per month at the junior level, which is more than enough. Almost 100% of students get placements, and there is not a single student who doesn't. My plans after getting my degree are to complete my internship and study for further level promotions in my field.
Infrastructure: There are a number of facilities provided in hostel rooms, such as hot water is available 24/7 and nice, comfy rooms with only 2 students living in them. Each room has a separate bathroom instead of public washrooms. The meals provided in the canteen are very good and healthy. No junk food is provided in the campus canteen and proper nutritious food is served. The registration of the hostel is done along with the admission itself, and no other extra effort is to be made in acquiring that. There are also facilities for renting a room outside the campus, but students still prefer the hostel due to its various good facilities.
Faculty: The best infrastructure was provided for our course. It was a clean and eco-friendly campus located in the heart of Lonavla, which is a beautiful hill station. The campus was powered by solar panels. The quality of the food served was good. Hygiene was maintained all the time. We had a fixed menu for the week. Daily, they served tea, breakfast, lime juice, lunch, coffee snacks, and dinner.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to pursue engineering and that too, after my 12th standard. The faculty-student ratio is 1:40, which is far better than any engineering college. The minimum qualification of the faculty is a Master's graduate or a retired Chief Engineer or Captain. This is a very good facility given to students to learn from the actual people themselves. The teaching method is more practical-based rather than only theoretical-based. The timely exams are every month, and students are given an ample amount of time to prepare well in advance. The difficulty of the papers was a little tougher than usual, rather than being simple and easy to answer and complete.

It has good infrastructure, good faculty members, and hostel services.
Placements: All students get placed in their own company, which is ESM, or executive ship management. The waiting time has increased a little bit due to COVID, but there is a guarantee of 100% job placement in the company.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very good. The hostel facilities are extremely good. The food and the rooms are very clean. Being a professional college, certain standards in the hostel are maintained. The wardens are very good. They keep you disciplined at all times and are there for you in case of an emergency, be it medical or anything else.
Faculty: The studies are a little difficult, but teachers are very good. They are very knowledgeable, and the seamanship instructors are very good at what they do. They prepare you for the semester exams in a very good way by taking mock and pre-final examinations. If students are not performing well, they are given special attention.
Other: People who want to get placed in the merchant navy career line will get a good start if they start from this college.

I am satisfied with the college.
Placements: Our college provides placements to all cadets. No matter what's your rank. The only thing that depends on rank is the order of getting the ship, except that, it gives placement to all the cadets. They teach you everything before going to ship so that you are well prepared.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is well-planned and spacy. Unlike other hostel's mess the food served here is good. The wardens are well trained at what they do and take care of every cadet properly. They keep regular exams and tests to make us prepared for the semesters which is very helpful.
Faculty: Faculty members are the best in this field with years of experience and are very kind personalities. All of them treat all the cadets equally without any discrimination. They solve all the cadets' problems personally, and hence no cadet feels left out.
