Admission to undergraduate engineering programmes (BTech) offered by IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology) is based on the ranks obtained by aspirants in JEE Main. Joint Entrance exam (JEE) Main is conducted twice every year. The score of candidates in the online exam is also accepted by the NITs (National Institute of Technology) and it acts as a gateway for IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology).
For admission to IIITs, candidates must score good marks in the exam as the institutes are choices of the top rank holders.
IIITs are the higher education institutes in India with a focus on Information Technology (IT). Five of them are established, funded and managed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the rest are set up on the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
