SRM University, AP

Every one of us wants to succeed in life and as a student, we have many dreams, but it is not so easy to take a decision about our course and college.. After my intermediate, I was going through the same situation. Right from my childhood, I have been a technophile and I really love to know about the latest gadgets, etc. and I wanted to study Computer Science Engineering in IITs or BITS, but it didn’t happen easily. I have struggled for 5 years to get into an IIT but last 2 years didn’t go as expected. My health was not well and I underwent a lot of stress, and because of all these issues, I could not get into an IIT.

All my hopes were shattered, but I didn’t lose faith. I believed Steve Jobs’ concept of connecting dots, I felt that everything happened for a reason. I secured 5162 rank in TSEAMCET and many people suggested me to join EAMCET colleges but I always wanted to join IIT or BITS, but I could not fulfill it. So, I started searching for different universities in India. I wrote entrance exams for colleges like SRM and Amrita, and I attended BML University interviews. I got a seat in all of them, but because of my health, I couldn’t live in other states and I couldn’t afford the fee too. I and my parents started asking many people for suggestions, but I wasn’t convinced with their ideas. Many people asked me to take Electronics and Communication Engineering instead of CSE because I could go for both government and private jobs, but as I love Coding, I didn’t accept their ideas and hence, continued with my own idea. In the same way, when you are put into chaos to choose your course, follow your heart. Listen to everyone’s suggestions, but follow your intuition because at the end, you are the one who is going to study.

While choosing a college, you have to be very careful. Choose a place where you could be satisfied and get an all-round exposure. I finally chose SRM University, Amaravati, AP (SRMAP). I secured 8k rank in SRMJEE and 970 in intermediate. So, I had been asked to attend for an interview at Vijayawada. After attending the interview, I felt really satisfied with the faculty, curriculum, infrastructure and I decided that it would be the best choice where I could follow my passion. I performed well at the interview and I joined SRMAP Computer Science and Engineering branch with a scholarship of 50% on my tuition fee. While choosing a college, select a few colleges which you are interested to join and visit them. Interact with the students and faculty members, and later, analyze the differences between them. Choose an option which would be the best for you.

I always had a dream of joining an IIT or BITS, but after joining SRMAP, I never regretted because I felt that this university was a place where everyone could find the best in themselves. The curriculum was designed at its best with a multidisciplinary exposure. We had Biology and Economics too for the people who love to do research in field of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and who want to become entrepreneurs in the future. In CSE, our first programming language was Python. This helped us to learn and understand the most interesting technologies like Artificial Intelligence and IoT better. We have a collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) which helped us to get international exposure. Not only studies, but we also have clubs and societies where we could enhance our talents. We have tech, cultural, and sports fests too.

Now, I’m studying in the second year of BTech and in the beginning, I had no knowledge of Coding, but now, I’m pretty well versed in Python and Ruby. My faculty helped me a lot in learning and cross hurdles  I faced while learning Coding. The best lesson l learned in this one-year journey is that nothing is impossible; all it takes is perseverance, belief in oneself and to never giveup.

All of us as students face many problems like not securing good ranks, marks or the desired college, etc., but not all those ranks or marks would decide our career but our passion and determination decides our career. In India, we have many colleges and institutions, all it needs is a little patience to search for the one which fits you as the best. Just not getting a good college is the end of your career but because of this reason if you give up, it ends your career. Don’t just change your thoughts or ideas because of others’ suggestions because at the end, you are the one who’s going to face it. Choose a course which you love because a great engineer comes out of great passion. Don’t just hurry to take a decision about the college, wait and search for all colleges and choose the best out of them in terms of faculty, placements, etc.

The expected closing rank for CSE at SRM-AP (Amaravati) is typically in the 3,500–6,000 range. Even in years where cutoffs relaxed, they did not generally go beyond 6,000 for the general category at this campus.
