How my college shaped my future: Samsher Yadav
During my primary and secondary education, I was keen about learning new things. My childhood was spent with engineers and teachers. Whenever I saw them, I wanted to be an engineer too. Curiosity always made me learn new things and that is what motivated me to opt for Science. In secondary exams, I scored good marks and I opted for the path of learning new science concepts. It was exciting as well as a bit difficult. I was clear about my objectives and wanted to pursue my career in Science so I started my preparation for entrance exams on my own and took some tuition classes, which were enough for me. I tried my level best to get into some renowned college.
AIEEE (now JEE Mains) was the entrance exam which I appeared for in 2011 and my score was good but not enough to get me admission into a good NIT. Some new and distant NITs were an option but my family did not allow me. I am from Gurgaon and my family only permitted me to take admission in some nearby college in NCR/Delhi.
World Institute Of Technology was a very popular name in our region. It had a good reputation amongst the engineering colleges at that time in all aspects like infrastructure, faculty, hostel and green campus. Initially, I thought that college life was full of fun and enjoyment. I had both, with a bit of responsibility too. In the first year, we organized an event with the help of our seniors and the college management. It was a huge success. Every semester we had to make projects, both individually and in a group – both of these helped in building our skills. The college provided internship opportunities to all the students of the college and the stipend was not the same for all. It depended upon the company and the work type. On an average, each student received more than 2-3k as a stipend that helped in easy accommodation.
During my college days, we had so many things to do. Also, we always had to be ready for the practical and written exams and our faculty members were very supportive. They were our well-wishers. They always helped us in our doubts and motivated us. Basically, they prepared us for the future professional life.
My campus life was wonderful because of my friends and seniors. I cherish each and every moment spent in the college. The campus life was just splendid and is beyond any form of description. The diversity was rich where one could find students from each state of the country. Students from foreign countries (Nepal, Sri Lanka) too come here to study. The alumni had an excellent association with the college in the form of an organization called Reunion. Many a times interactions with alumni were organized.
Also, I would like to mention that the boy to girl ratio was 10:2 as it is a core engineering college. I still had some good friends there and they were a part of my college life and beyond too.
After the 7th semester, companies visited the campus for recruitment. It was a life-changing time for the college students and the same applied to me too. Some companies interviewed me but I was only greeted with disappointment. My destiny had something else planned for me. I got a job opportunity to work in a startup and there, I learned new concepts that helped me and even now I am using them in my life to perform my tasks. My work was to explore the venues to generate money and I happily did that. The job brought calmness in my life and I started rethinking about myself and the society I live in. It took me two years to decide what more I can do to improve the society’s standards. I started teaching small kids from 1st to 8th class in the evening and tried to bring happiness on the face of their parents when they saw the marks of their kids; in the same way that my parents felt when they saw my marks.
