Candidates need not have 75 percent marks in class 12 for appearing in JEE Main. As per the official brochure released by the NTA, there is no minimum percentage required for appearing in the JEE Main. The requirement of 75 percent marks need not be associated with appearing in the JEE Main exam.
It is to be understood that 75 percent marks is required for admission to institutes which include NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs. Many institutes offer admission at 60% and even less, along with JEE Main. Candidates must clearly understand that the requirement of 75 percent marks in class 12 is only for taking admission in the institutes.

About the JEE Main exam
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main exam twice a year (January and April). It is one of the most competitive and important engineering entrance exams in India taken by over 10 to 12 lakh students. The exam is held at a national level to shortlist candidates for JEE Advanced. The questions in the exam are framed from the class 11 and 12 level syllabus prescribed by NTA.
Top 2.5 Lac students in JEE Main are qualified to appear in JEE Advanced. Students qualifying in JEE Advanced are eligible to pursue engineering, architecture and planning courses after completing their class 12. The JEE Advanced exam is the only gateway to premier engineering institutions - Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The JEE Main exam consists of three papers - BE/BTech (paper 1), BArch (paper 2a) and BPlan (paper 2b). In the JEE Main session 1, Shreyas Mishra is among the 12 toppers of JEE Main who scored 300 out of 300 marks and have got 100 percentile.
