What Does 95 Percentile in JEE Main Translate To?

Before listing colleges, it’s important to understand what 95 percentile roughly means in terms of All India Rank (AIR):

JEE Main Percentile

Approx. All India Rank (General)

99.9

1,300-1,500

99.5

6,600-7,300

99.0

13,000-14,700

98.0

26,600-29,400

95.0

66,500-73,500

So a 95 percentile means you’re in top 5% - good enough to open doors but very competitive for top NITs, IIITs or IITs.

Which college can I get with 95 percentile in JEE Mains general?

The most important question which comes into a student’s mind is “which college can I get with 95 percentile in JEE Mains general”, as there is reservation, it is completely fair for the candidate to think what college they might get based on their category.

At a 95 percentile, a student from general category can land an All India Rank (AIR) between 65,000 and 75,000 and they might be eligible for at mid-to-lower Tier NITs (like NIT Agartala, NIT Srinagar, or NIT Nagaland) along with several GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes) like BIT Mesra or Assam University. Top-tier NITs (Trichy, Surathkal) are out of reach for core branches.

For students searching for queries like - “95 Percentile in JEE Mains Colleges General” their focus should be on Home State (HS) Quota. If they belong to Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, or North-Eastern states, 95 percentile can get them excellent branches in local NIT. Without HS quota, they might get Civil, Environmental, or Production engineering in most NITs and not CS.

No, JEE Main is not required to take admission in BTech at NMAM Institute of Technology, NITTE University. The college accepts NUCAT scores for BTech admissions. NUCAT is conducted by the institute itself. It has MCQ type questions with no negative marking.
