Q:   What is HSTES B.Tech Lateral Entry?

In simple terms, B.Tech lateral entry is the direct entry of a candidate into the second year of engineering, which is in the third semester, after completing a Diploma in engineering or a B.Sc. in Physics or Mathematics. Those candidates who are accepted need not study the first year or first two semesters of B.Tech. and will be eligible for direct admissions. The duration of the whole course is six semesters, or three years.

In Haryana, Haryana State Technical Education Society which is set up by the Haryana Government conducts state-level counselling for admission to various graduate and diploma courses in different disciplines of Engineering, Technology, Architecture & Planning, Pharmacy, Management etc. HSTES counselling for BTech admission is held based on JEE Main scores.

The selection criteria for BTech admission in HSTES counselling is JEE Main ranks. The proper inter-se-merit and ranks shall be displayed on the official website for the candidates to check. Based on the ranks provided to the candidates in the HSTES merit list, candidates will be allotted seats during the seat allotment.

Q:   I have passed class 12 exam with 50% aggregate marks, do I still need JEE Main score for HSTES counselling for BTech admission?
A: 

Yes. JEE Main rank is mandatory for admission to BTech courses via the HSTES counselling. The BTech seats via HSTES counselling is allotted to the candidates based on JEE Main scores only however, candidates also need a minimum 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in class 12.
