Candidates who want to take admission to BTech in HIMT College first need to appear in the IMU-CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test). It is a national-level common entrance test for admission to BTech and various courses at IMU campuses and affiliated colleges by the Indian Maritime University. 

Tolani Maritime Institute- TMI and Academy of Maritime Education and Training both are renowned universities for B.E. / B.Tech. However, in terms of affordability, Tolani Maritime Institute- TMI is a better option since the total tuition fee for Tolani Maritime Institute- TMI is INR 768,000 and the total tuition fee for B.E. / B.Tech at Academy of Maritime Education and Training is INR 360,000 - INR 1,540,000. In the total fees that students generally end up paying the university or the college, various other components are also included, such as the exam fee, application fee, lab and other charges.

Currently, the counselling process is going on for admission to the BTech course at IMU Chennai, which has been released. In this Chennai campus, candidates who qualify for IMU CET can register themselves for the counselling process after the release of the IMU CET list. The application form usually starts in the month of April/ May every academic year. For the academic batch of 2025, the last date to fill out the IMU CET Application form was 2 May 2025. 

The admission process is entrance-based for course admission at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education. Aspirants should pass Class 12 with a 45%-50% aggregate for all courses. The admission criteria for the course is the entrance exam. Candidate must have a valid in house entrance exam scores, i.e., NICHE Entrance Exam followed by PI.
