The department of biotechnology was started in the year 2002 with the mission of bringing a unique combination of skills and wide range of scientific disciplines. The Department of Biotechnology has been winning the esteemed best outgoing student award consecutively since its inception in the college. The Department has so far produced 52 university rank holders in B.Tech and 6 university rank holders in M.Tech (3 gold medals). Anna University exam dates change every year. In the past two exam sessions, Anna University has been conducting the TANCET exam in March for MBA and MCA courses. Anna University maintained the exam schedule in line with the previous session. The complete schedule, including answer key release and result dates, was announced in due course.

Rajalakshmi Engineering College MBA curriculum does follow a semester-based system. Every year is divided into two semesters with a duration of 4-5 months. The REC MBA course is a two-year course with four total semesters. The entire syllabus for the MBA course as well as all necessary internships/projects are completed within this course duration.

TANCET participating colleges define the TANCET cutoff scores or the last ranks for admission. However, participating institutes do not release a cutoff list for candidates to check during the admission process. The REC BTech admissions are decided on the scores obtained by the candidates in the TNEA entrance examination. Candidates who score appropriate ranks are proceeded to the counselling rounds. In addition to the TNEA entrance exam, candidates are also required to fulfill the eligibility criteria for their chosen BTech course.
