Candidates who want to take admission to BTech in HIMT College first need to appear in the IMU-CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test). It is a national-level common entrance test for admission to BTech and various courses at IMU campuses and affiliated colleges by the Indian Maritime University. 

Coimbatore Marine College and Academy of Maritime Education and Training both are renowned universities for B.E. / B.Tech. However, in terms of affordability, Coimbatore Marine College is a better option since the total tuition fee for Coimbatore Marine College is INR 297,000 and the total tuition fee for B.E. / B.Tech at Academy of Maritime Education and Training is INR 360,000 - INR 1,540,000. In the total fees that students generally end up paying the university or the college, various other components are also included, such as the exam fee, application fee, lab and other charges.

Currently, the counselling process is going on for admission to the BTech course at IMU Chennai, which has been released. In this Chennai campus, candidates who qualify for IMU CET can register themselves for the counselling process after the release of the IMU CET list.
