Mystory@Abhishek Chakraborty: How I chose my course and made my career

Mystory@Abhishek Chakraborty

It was a great result! My 10th board exam score was perfect for me to get into Science or Commerce stream. But I never shared a good relationship with someone called Mathematics! I always wanted to leave her but she was too adamant to leave me (till I passed in tenth board exam). Getting into Science or Commerce meant that I had to continue the relationship with her. So I decided to break up with Mathematics and I chose Humanities out of my love for Political Science.

I never shared a good relationship with someone called Mathematics. So I decided to break up after Class X and chose Humanities.

Of course, I received a lot of opposition from my family for the choice I made because they wanted me to be successful in life. But I believe that peace and happiness is more important compared to material success. I even investigated, to be precise, and found out that I can still be successful and stay happy and earn well with a decent job with Humanities. And I anyways hated numbers, figures, BODMAS rule, Geometry, Algebra...huh!

I opted to pursue political science as I like to express what I feel about anything and everything and I completely like to debate and hold discussions on any given topic. So against all odds and opposition, I went on to explore my interest areas with the thoughts and views of Chanakya, Plato, Socrates, Rosseau, Karl Mark, and Mark Twain. I really enjoyed whatever I read and understood. I still bow my head in reverence to them for actually making me understand how the world should be and how each human should stay and never did anyone say or quote anything like one should sacrifice peace and continue with war and atrocities.

And for me, ‘peace’ is that I understand completely what I read and study. It’s ‘war’ for me when I can’t make sense of anything I read! And ‘atrocities’ for me would have been a probable suicide if I had failed in the 12th Boards having chosen Science or Commerce stream.

I am not regretful or guilty of what I chose to pursue. Humanity rocks!

How I made my career

After finishing school, I chose to work with BPOs as with the same qualification I had managed to earn as well as carry on with my college studies. I was primarily with Firstsource Solutions Limited in 2009 and then I joined Hinduja Global Solutions as a product/process/soft skills trainer in 2011 and was associated with them until May 2014, when I joined IndiGo Airlines. Earlier I was based out of Kolkata and have recently moved to Bangalore.

I wish to become a writer and publish a best-selling novel. If given an opportunity, I would like to pour my heart out on paper and write a novel on college life and I also have a strong desire to write a book on Space travel. Let’s see what’s written in my fate.

About the Author:

I am a proud Political Science (Hons) graduate from Siliguri College under North Bengal University. I was born in Kolkata and raised in Siliguri. I am currently in Bangalore, working with IndiGo Airlines as an Executive.

In my free time, I read and write and when I don’t feel like doing any of it, I listen to music or Google the world.  I love to locate various aircrafts on Flight Radar and then getting the information of those aircrafts and airlines on Google/Wikipedia.
