In a recent conversation with Shiksha, Bashma Jahan talks about her experience of GD & PI process for admission at ICFAI Business School, Bangalore. She talks about questions asked by the panelists and also has a few tips for aspiring students.

Q. What were the GD topics at the time of your admission?

A.

It was related to Aadhar card.

Q. What were the focus areas during your GD preparation?

A.

Content, contribution, and communication.

Q. What methods did you use to prepare for your GD?

A.

I did not use any methods for GD. I prepared only for my PI by reading all the updates of our country, current affairs, and GK.

Q. Did you take any help (coaching centers/materials) to prepare for your GD?

A.

No, I didn't take any help.

Q. How many panelists and participants were there?

A.

2-3 panelists and 12-14 participants were there.

Q. Who were the panelists in your GD & PI? How difficult were they to tackle? What was your overall strategy to tackle the panel and what worked?

A.

They were from the college faculty and were not very difficult to tackle. It was easy as they were smiling and good to talk to.

Q. What were the questions asked in your PI?

A.

Following were the questions-

Do I read the newspaper?
I had work experience, so they asked me about that. There were questions related to my graduation course.

Q. How did you prepare for your PI?

A.

I read newspapers and kept myself updated with the current affairs. I also browsed the internet for some information. I also prepared about myself and worked on how to speak.

Q. What strategies (books/reference materials/coaching) did you apply for preparation of PI?

A.

No strategies.

Q. Did you happen to panic at any given pint of time during the GD & PI? Any particular moment in which you wanted to go back and change or may perform better?

A.

It was a panic situation in GD whereas my PI was easy as they asked about my graduation and work experience. They asked me if I read the newspaper, current news. There was no such particular moment where I wanted to go back and change anything.

Q. How was your overall GD & PI experience?

A.

It was good. Before going through the selection process I was very nervous but after attending the GD and PI, I realised it was not that tough. GD & PI carry 50% weightage and rest of the 50% weightage goes to 10th, 12th and graduation marks. Accordingly the combined score will decide your college allotment like if you have scored 100%, you will be given Hyderabad campus, then comes Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon and so on.

Q. What tips do you have for the aspirants appearing for GD & PI?

A.

Keep yourself updated with the news of our nation and other countries. Read newspaper regularly. One should have domain knowledge. But from now onwards, there is no GD and PI, seats are allotted on the basis of marks obtained only.

Q. What is the one lesser-known fact about GD & PI?

A.

You can do it. Topics are easy.
