I am greatly thankful to my Alma Mater: Praveen Gupta
Getting a postgraduate degree was not a part of my career plan but some right decisions got me into Jagannath International Management School which gave me a direction to channel my management quality. JIMS gave me many opportunities to outshine in areas of management. Be it quizzes, presentations, event management or ever cultural programs, JIMS has provided us with a platform to judge our calibre and chisel out the best in all the students. Here, I got the chance to stand out and volunteer in various situations. First was my initiative to be a class representative. This taught me about responsibilities and to be answerable for one’s own actions and the actions that people who are connected to you take. Then I tried my hands on organizing and managing events. This instilled in me a sense of confidence to deal with different situations and getting this done in an organised manner. Under the tutelage of Dr. J K Batra, I learned how to work in stressed situations and manage everything in an efficient manner. To name a few, I organized events like Zest & dandiya, Fresher’s welcome, Markathon and farewell to final year students.
As the first year of PGDM ended, we were supposed to do an internship and apply what we have learned in our work. What I realized was that real life is very different from bookish knowledge. However, what I had attained through my practical experiences in JIMS rendered a major helping hand in my internship. I worked with a Fintech company (Loan Frame) which was dealing in SME funding. I was a management trainee in the working capital department and my job was to prepare a project on an analytical study of the working capital resources in Delhi/NCR region. This required meetings with CA(s) and CS persons across Delhi/NCR for a detailed understanding of this project. It was a learning experience and further boosted my confidence. Internship introduced me to the real world. Further, guest lectures on different aspects of finance organized at JIMS, Kalkaji strengthened my concepts and gave me an insight into the corporate world to land into my dream job.
We also got the necessary exposure to various industries like Amul, Safe Express, Parle G, Yamaha, Yakult etc. These visits threw light on various aspects of management like logistics, supply chain management, manufacturing process handling. Apart from observing these processes, we were also enlightened by the project managers who gave us the first-hand information about the workings of the industry and challenges they face and how they deal with them. The visit was beneficial to all the students who got a chance to see for themselves how things are done in the practical scenario.
The most important part of this programme was the placement process. A stressful yet equally beneficial process, placement showed us the mirror. It showed where we are and where we wish to be. The faculty conducted mock sessions and groomed us for the final placement process. All these GD and PI sessions and their prior practices gave us valuable knowledge and a chance to judge and correct our mistakes. The whole process was exhilarating and the sheer happiness of getting the mail of ‘you are hired’ cannot be put into words. JIMS had made my journey memorable and full of learning for which I am greatly thankful to this alma mater.
