Journey from admission to placement: Pratibha Sahoo

“Nothing worth having comes easy”- best for describing this journey from college to corporate. Starting from admission, it looks like a dreamful journey wherein you have your own set of goals to be achieved at the end of the course. I chose Jagannath Institute of International Management, Kalkaji to make my PGDM journey a memory. With the support of faculty, I left no stones untouched in participating in various activities conducted in the college such as Markathon, E-week, etc. By becoming a part of the organizing committee to taking part in the individual events, I explored my skills and learned new aspects of management. By being just a participant to bagging 1^st position, you learn how to become a winner and maintain the status. Inter-college presentation, debate, etc. gave me opportunities to enhance my presentation and communication skills and made me corporate-ready. Not just hard work but also the faculty’s guidance helped me to lead the race. I was provided with proper management support for going out and participating in events and even for organizing new events in our college.

The college provides summer internship which is a real-time learning experience. You actually get to experience corporate life. I was fortunate to have done my internship with CBRE, Hyderabad. I had a very good experience working with the company which is a US based MNC. Even in my internship period, I was constantly interacting with my faculty mentor in college for my work reports and guidance in project report which I submitted after my 2 months internship.

Placement is not a one-time affair.  It’s a long process which starts from day one of college. Challenges are mind-boggling and the college provides us with ample opportunities. You get opportunities to interact with corporate professionals in live projects, mentorship sessions, etc., which are a part of the curriculum. Guest lectures are organized to give a present scenario of the job market and the skills to be imbibed in order to fit in the right job.

I am now placed with Xceedance Consulting India Pvt. Ltd. as a business analyst. I thank my college and faculty members for the endless guidance and support they provided in order to help me achieve my dream. I also take this opportunity to express my thanks to my friends and peers at the campus, from whom I learned a lot during our team activities.

Out of all whose contribution I value, the most enriching learning experience was with Jyoti Ma’am. Her IPD (Inter-personal skills) sessions were excellent. She also taught us Managerial Communication subject. The college has a communication lab that improves pronunciation and builds accent. Needless to mention, the journey of learning at JIMS Kalkaji was an active and fun-filled learning experience.

Further, it’s not only knowledge but also skills that I have learned by being on the campus. Soft skills such as leadership, being creative, patience, negotiation, networking which are crucial for survival in today’s era were well-delivered here.

I don’t think any other campus in the city can do so much better than JIMS Kalkaji, where the ‘best never rest’.
