MBA from Welingkar Institute of Management was my first choice for its ROI and the course it offered
I feel that the most critical factor in shortlisting a college is its ROI (Return on Investment). The college’s ranking, location, brand value, admission criteria, placements, alumni network, student crowd, teaching quality, and infrastructure are some other key factors which are essential. Post extensive research and contacting many people, one of the colleges I zeroed in on was Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai since it offered a unique course, which I was very keen in pursuing. The course name was PGDM in e-Business, which seemed to be a good amalgamation of interpreting traditional business concepts along with an infusion of technology and data-driven decision-making. Coming from an IT background and about to pursue my MBA journey, this course, perhaps, was the best choice for me.
And after going through the course syllabus mentioned on the college website as well as evaluating all the aforementioned parameters (location, ranking, infra, etc.), I knew this college would enable me to pursue my dreams. And receiving positive feedback about the course and college over the Internet and the word of mouth only strengthened my resolve to treat Welingkar as my final choice.

Not a Huge Campus, but a Robust Infrastructure
I started my post-graduation course (PGDM in e-Business) at Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai campus in June 2018. And I successfully completed it in April 2020. Welingkar college is located in the suburb of Matunga in Central Mumbai and is well-connected to Dadar railway station on the Central Railway and both domestic and international airports. Though it does not have a huge campus size and in-house hostel facilities, it does have a robust infrastructure, which consists of a single building offering multiple amenities such as an auditorium, cafeteria, library, fully air-conditioned spacious classrooms, WiFi access, IT lab, playing area for indoor games, gymnasium, to name a few.

Deciding Course for its Relevance and Updation
When it comes to choosing a course, its relevance becomes a vital aspect as one can make good use of the learnings from a course only if he/she actually knows the purpose of pursuing it. In my case, I completed my graduation in the IT sector, hence it made more sense to select a course, which catered to that field at least partially, if not entirely. And I was keen to make a career in the technology domain itself, hence I selected PGDM in e-Business, which is a combination of traditional business aspects coupled with modern-day technological concepts. The aim of this course was to make one tech-savvy as well as instil orthodox management principles; proving to be an asset in this increasingly data-driven world.
How frequently the college updates the particular course, also plays a crucial role in its selection. If it gets regularly updated as per the market trends, it becomes easier for one to adapt and thrive in this ever-exciting and volatile world. And Welingkar ensures all its courses are in sync as per the latest demands of the business sector. Hence, the relevancy of a course ensures the learning always remains enjoyable and enriching.

My Journey from Rote Learning to Comprehending Logically
Until my MBA life commenced, my exposure to studying in a logical way was pretty limited as I was more used to rote learning. But then came the MBA entrance exams, and I realised that getting rid of rote learning initially wasn’t as difficult as I would’ve expected. All it mattered was to develop rational thinking as much as possible and strengthen my vocabulary in such a way that articulating opinions wouldn’t be a big deal. And once the B-school phase began, I realised that the efforts put in during the MBA entrance exams in improving my vocabulary, reading ability, and logical thinking were bearing fruits.
I could find myself thinking out of the box, voicing my opinions logically, and developing an urge to read more on a daily basis. Now on the basis of a few pointers, I could easily frame extensive and insightful answers during the exams as well as speak up well during the presentations. And the nature of teaching pedagogy at Welingkar also ensured that I constantly nurtured this newly formed way of thinking. From a stage wherein I had to byheart a page-long answer and cram it into my brain to effortlessly such answers with minimal effort, I feel like I’ve come a long way.
