Choosing Commerce opened numerous career opportunities for me: Anand Narayan
I did my schooling from Arya Central School, Trivandrum. After completing and finishing my 10th board exams (CBSE), there came a point when I had to choose a stream for 11th and 12th. I was confused at that point of time.
I did not know what each stream was about and whether I should choose science stream or computer stream or commerce stream. I was worried about it. All my family members are from commerce background, so ultimately, I chose commerce as my stream. It was my sole decision and no one forced me to take up this stream. Later, after the classes started, I found it interesting.
My favourite subjects in 11th and 12th were Accounting and Business Studies. I loved to play with numbers and figures and was very excited when solving problems of accounting and tallying balance sheets. I scored good marks. This was a turning point in my life, the stream selection. If I look back, I do not have any regrets. There are a lot of scope and opportunities in the commerce stream. If someone asks me for advice regarding stream selection, I would definetely say Commerce.
Why PGDM ?
I hail from a family with a business background, so naturally, I am interested in the same. The reason I chose PGDM after I completed BCom is that I wanted to gain knowledge of the business field, marketing and sales, techniques, strategies, happenings in the corporate world, etc. I thought it would be of use to me at some point of time in future.
How I cracked entrance exams
If you ask me how I cracked the entrance exams for which I appeared, I would say that if you have a dream and if you wish to achieve something in life, then you have to choose the right path. I wrote CAT/ MAT/ KMAT. I attended T.I.M.E. for coaching and they taught us several shortcuts in order to make us feel that these exams were simple and we could easily crack them. I followed what they said and did my work on time. I also attended mock-tests, etc. Finally, I wrote the entrance exams and I got good marks in all.
Summer Internship Programme
The first-year PGDM students can get exposure to the real business world during summer internships.
As a part of my PGDM curriculum, I did my internship training at Luker Electric Technologies (P) Ltd, Ernakulam. I worked there as a sales trainee for two months from the period April to May. This was my first exposure to the corporate world wherein I gained a lot of knowledge about how things actually are. I gained experience in the sales field too.
Conclusion
“You are the creator of your own destiny”. I have made the right decision in my career regarding studies. I thank everybody who supported me and helped me to come up to this level. Everybody, make your career decision wisely as it will have a long-term impact in your life in terms of goodwill and reputation.
