Anurag Moitra: How I chose my course and college
I’m from a small town of Chhattisgarh. My parents got me admitted in a Hindi medium school for my school education. And since I was interested in Science, I completed my 12th with PCM. After my 12th I decided to pursue engineering and took admission in YITM for my BE in Electronics & Telecommunication. My English medium education started with my engineering course, which I found quite enjoyable and difficult at the same time.
But I had strong ways to prove that I am not less than the best. I had to go to English learning classes, which shaped my communication skills to required levels and I saw myself in a better position. YITM being one of the finest college of my state has its own exceptional way of teaching which always brings out the best in a student. I am proud to be part of this educational institute.
Choosing E&TC branch was a good decision made by me at that point of time and it led to expected results after I completed my graduation. What I learned in my college helped me get a job in a networking company as a network engineer. The company work experience really helped me climb up my career ladder. I was made to travel around the country for official work which allowed me to enhance my knowledge. Then after 4+ years of work experience, I decided to go for MBA (Global) and joined Acharya Bangalore B School (ABBS) in 2016.
How I cracked college admission
Somewhere in my heart I wanted to continue my education. And finally, I decided to pursue management studies to further my education. I cleared the necessary entrance tests i.e. CAT, MAT, CMAT and XAT and secured a decent score in MAT. Based on my MAT score, I applied for admission in ABBS, after GD & PI and the telephonic round I got selected in ABBS. My work experience gave me an edge to get admission in ABBS. Since I was working, I didn’t go for any coaching classes to prepare for the entrance exams. I didn’t try for any other MBA college because ABBS is the best option I had, it being one of the finest management institutes of South India. A major reason for my choosing ABBS was its Global immersion program, in which we will have global exposure to other countries like Malaysia and Singapore and for 45 days we’ll study there. This will give us an opportunity to learn about global business which is important in today’s management studies since today’s business is integrated at a global level.
My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more
Selecting ABBS has not been a wrong decision after 4+ years of work experience. It’s tough to get back to academics but ABBS made it appear like a cake walk for me. Since I have my technical skills I want to enhance my management skill as well and give my career a double edge. So I joined PGDM where we get all the freedom to study, faculties are well qualified and we mainly focus on case studies, journals and paper presentations, and Management Development Programs. We have Entrepreneurship cell, CSR activities, Investment lab where we learn about stock market NSE and BSE, Finance; we also have HR cell, Marketing cell, industrial visits and guest lectures from the corporate world and the list is never ending in ABBS.
I really feel proud of being part of this excellent institute. When I joined ABBS, I got a lot of responsibilities along with college work, as I became the class representative and subsequently ABBS brand ambassador at shiskha.com. This gave me a sense of pride as well as responsibility. Shiksha is the best guide for students and MBA aspirants for college selection, I answer questions of students regarding the college, and I’ve always been glad doing it and I will make sure that I will continue doing the same in my working days as well.
Talking of tips for successful time management, I would say that it’s important to know your goals. Make sure you are engaging in activities that support it. Another thing is to be relaxed and stay composed, do the necessary stuff first, avoid unnecessary things, construct well defined plan for a successful career. And never go off the track if you see failure, don’t get disappointed because failure is the first step towards success. And after reaching your career objective don’t settle down. Pull up your socks and make new goals for your life and do make your contribution to the society.
