AIM inculcated a world of confidence in me: Pallavi Acharya
My journey at Asia-Pacific Institute of Management began in 2016. Now, when I look back at that journey, I somehow feel that these two years passed in the blink of an eye.
I did my BA Economic Honours from Delhi University. After completion of the course I got a good opportunity to work with Jupiven Pharmaceuticals Private Limited and iSOURCE Opportunities.
With almost 22 months of work experience, I secured admission in Asia-Pacific Institute of Management. For any PGDM/MBA program you need to crack entrance exam like CAT/MAT/XAT/ATMA/GMAT, so I cleared my MAT exam, followed by group discussion and personal interview. At AIM, I chose PGDM International Business and Marketing because I was very much interested in exploring a global career in marketing management.
My two years of work experience helped me a lot during my journey. I was able to relate the corporate experience with my learning experience at college.
Before joining the two year PGDM program at Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, I wasn’t very comfortable with the idea of going on the stage and addressing the audience. But all thanks to our experienced and learned faculty at the institute, today, I am a totally transformed person. Faculty members helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and extended enough help to help me overcome my stage fear. I got ample opportunities to prove myself on stage and I ended up hosting numerous fests, events, seminars and conferences in my campus. I have learnt a lot via delivering formal presentations and speaking before the entire class. All these efforts instilled confidence in me and I learnt the art of effective communication too.
One thing about Asia-Pacific Institute of Management that has really impressed me is its industry-vetted curriculum and the amazing faculty members. Faculty members' dynamism made our studies very interesting and interactive. I believe I am really very fortunate to have been mentored by some of the best professors I have ever known. I shall always remain highly grateful to all of my faculties and especially Dr. Jitender Bhandari and Professor Ritu Dutta for helping me a lot during my two years journey.
3I’s: Industry-Institute-Interface
At AIM, each and every student is exposed to the very latest that’s happening in the industry out there with its 3I's teaching approach i.e. Industry-Institute-Interface. This interface takes place in the form of guest lectures, industry visits, summer and winter internships. All these interactions helped me understand industry-oriented needs so that I can prepare accordingly to fit appropriately in the corporate world. The institute is constantly strengthening its links with leading business organizations, so its students learn the practical side of running and managing a business, and also get picked up by top brands.
Summer and winter internships made me aware of the necessary skills required to progress in highly professional environment. Guest lectures are regularly organized and are a very prominent activity at the institute. The institute invites CEOs and top management of big industrial houses and eminent management gurus to the campus to conduct lectures on current issues. My regular interactions with top executives and other professionals helped me to understand the corporate world in a much better manner.
The institute opens new horizons and made me better equipped to understand integration of numerous functions of organization which always gives an added advantage over competitors at work place.
In today’s hypercompetitive global market scenario, you should always consider a college or a university which offers good internship and placement opportunities. And, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management is one of those wonderful management B-schools that provide assistance to their students in internships and placements. The institute has 100% placement record from the past 21 years. Therefore, the scope of securing a good job becomes easy.
Words of wisdom
"Always be practical, believe in yourself and follow your dreams."
I am extremely confident about what I gained during my prestigious journey. My experiences in college will definitely help me in my career progression ahead and will act as a pillar to my success. I am extremely satisfied with my selection as a Management Trainee-Business Development at Zycus.
One more thing: Being a professional dancer, I realized that following your passion not only makes you a happy person, but it also boosts your confidence. So I’d advise everyone to follow their passions. Just because you’re pursuing a management programme or working in an MNC doesn’t mean you should stop singing, or dancing, or painting. Do whatever makes you happy, and this will help you work more effectively at your workplace.
