The classes had been a superlative training experience as they were very informative, says Harshita

After appearing for quite a few entrance tests for my undergraduate programme, the entrance for CAT which is required for PGDM was not completely unknown to me. I had a fair idea of the format but lacked complete awareness and conceptual clarity over it. With the reasoning to explore a little longer, I surfed the internet and found a lot of relevant content that helped me to clear the MAT exam.

I did my schooling from Patna, Bihar from St. Josephs Convent High School and completed my High School in the Science stream. I couldn’t relate much to Biology as much as I could to the Business world. The corporate world fascinated me more. I did my Bachelors in Business Administration and started preparing for my MBA entrance exams. I started practising Mock papers and timing my sections. I wanted to study in Delhi NCR and given my first attempt at the entrance exams, I filtered the colleges as per the course offered (I was looking for IB with Finance Combination) and their entrance criteria. My MAT and CAT scores were sufficient to get me a scholarship at JIMS Kalkaji - Jagannath International Management School and since the course curriculum updated on their website was quite as per my expectations, it seemed a perfect fit for me.

I did my homework too in terms of International Exposure, and the College Placements. The faculties were really learned and experienced. The training sessions they conducted for our soft skills and summer internships/ Placements were very useful. During our live projects and Summer internships, the learnings were very prominent for our growth. The industry exposure provided us with hands-on learning experience.

I had a fair idea of the format but lacked complete awareness and conceptual clarity over it. With the reasoning to explore a little longer, I surfed the internet and found a lot of relevant content that helped me to clear the MAT exam. Apart from the decent scoring that is 600+ and the extra privilege of a good academic record, I was eligible for a scholarship of INR 1.5 Lakh. This money saviour option made my decision more confirmed on three direct benefits: Scholarship, Desired location as well as desired course.

Digital learning had already been already a trend and practice for me as I had learnt the tips and tricks from youtube, etc. which facilitated my learning processes also here. Further, though I was receiving calls from NDIM, BIMTECH, etc. but I had little belief in other colleges as they were either over my budget or their curriculum couldn’t move me enough. Considering all the aspects of finalising my college didn’t seem like a decision that I would regret later. I was content with my choice and still am.

Taking classes in the college had been a digitally taxing task. The classes had been a superlative training experience as they were very informative. Also enhancement of digital skills through lab exercises helped me to extend my professional skills. Classes of Dr Neelam Tandon, I liked the most as they were practical dovetailed with various relevant corporate insights. I learnt pronunciation accent while neutralizing my accent to a global level which increased my confidence to face corporate interviews for MNCs. Though I wasn’t targeting any of the Big Four as such but my idea of understanding corporate interviews became much clearer. Dr Sanjeela Mathur was my mentor for the internships and preparations.

Given my background of mass communication I joined the NSS club of the campus. There were a few drives such as visiting an Old Age Home and Orphanages which I went along with the other student club members too and got emotional experience enrichment. Apart from the loads of blessings that I received I also realized that interpersonal skills are also of paramount significance. If given a chance again I would like to study the same course in the offline mode for a better experience.

My PGDM experience has transformed me much as a person both inside out. The element of complacency and social sensitivity that clouded me embeds in me a spirit of competition. I realized in the digital mode it is more convenient to have more time in your pocket and develop your skills. Waging a talent war isn’t that easy in today’s time of utter competition of completion of courses and securing personal accomplishments. I also developed thereby the spirit of persistence and did away with my habit of procrastination. Meeting people in real world is always a delight but more important is knowing and applying that art.
