Several individual assignments were completed using Google Classroom and Hangout Meets: Neha, KIIT
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
Are there online classes being conducted? If yes, how effective are these? With what frequency are these held? Are they sufficient to cover the designated syllabus?
Since when lockdown has been imposed in the country amidst COVID-19, the educational system has faced a transformation in the curriculum, course conduct and other assessments.
Many institutions including KIIT School of Management started taking online sessions. Soon after the lockdown was announced, our institution started conducting online sessions through Zoom. The classes were conducted with an aim of completion of the leftover syllabus and later, the classes were taken on the usual scheduled time.
Three classes per day were conducted with easy methods of understanding.
The teachers were cooperative in ensuring that the students understand the concepts well.
These online classes were effective as we could attend them in our comfort zones. Also, we got time to go through the recorded online sessions in case we had any doubt and we could contact the respective faculty directly through mail/WhatsApp or call to avoid any confusion later.
Are your projects or assignments to work on from home? What is the number of online submissions required to take place?
As our mid-semester exams were just over and we were preparing for the end semesters, we had a lot of pending assignments from every subject. The lockdown, at first, caused us various problems in coping up with the group assignments, but the online platforms helped the groups come together and discuss over the given assignment/project easily. This led in completion of the tasks within the stipulated time and then several individual assignments were done using Google Classroom and Hangout Meets.
While doing any assignment, we could directly contact the faculties in case of any doubt clarifications.
We had no books with us to refer to for completing the assignment, but our faculties shared their class notes with us for easy referrals which helped us with successful completion of the given task on time.
Every subject had around five assignment submissions, and now we are all done with it and our end semesters are done in a hassle-free way.
Anything else the college is doing in these times that is noteworthy that you would like to draw attention to.
Apart from the course curriculum, the different clubs and societies of the university also geared up to take many online sessions and events to utilise the lockdown time at home. The Marketing Society organised a poster design challenge which was to be submitted online by the participants and based on the merits, online certificates were given to the winners.
In the same way, the Finance Club organised online Tambola game with quizzes from time to time and also gave online certificates to the winners. The HR Club is organising weekly quiz contests and riddle solve contests and the winners are announced every weekend.
The entire university is working hard along the time to provide us with quality education even at this time, which certainly proves that nothing can ever stop the sharing of knowledge, be it a social network problem or a pandemic itself.
All we need to do is gear up for the new revolution in the field of education.
