Students’ Speak: A student should take up at least one live project every semester
By: Soumyadip Roychowdhury
Internship is an important aspect of the MBA curriculum. It gives an overview of the corporate job.
Internships are crucial for every student planning to build a strong career after completing their MBA. It is imperative for every student to take up internships and face the real world. Here’s what Soumyadip has to say about internships.
Q: Is there any Internship required in your course?
Yes, Internship is compulsory for first-year students. Because there are specific marks for this internship associated with the course. Internship duration varies between two to three months. For internship also, companies come for placement recruitment. So here on-campus placement happens where several companies come from different domains. Almost 100 per cent of students get on-campus placement.
Q: What projects are undertaken during internship or otherwise to benefit placements?
Projects are mainly in the IT, Marketing, Sales, Finance role and HR domain. Generally, companies come with multiple roles which are really important for a student to grow. The internship is also beneficial for final placement as a student gets exposure to the industry and gets practical knowledge rather study only theoretical concepts in the classroom. Internship also helps a student to understand the overall structure of a company which is helpful for the career ahead.
Students can choose live projects which give some perspective about market research or surveys. Students get benefitted by working in such kind of projects which also add values in their resume. There are several platforms where a student can apply for live projects. Generally, live projects are without money or with some money. A student gets a similar kind of exposure without being an employee of a company and understands the company. Generally, live projects are for the duration of two to four weeks and live project duration of the outside of academic hours. So it does not affect academics also. It allows a student to balance their study, too. So in my opinion, a student should do at least a live project in a semester.
Q: Is there any off-campus placement activities?
For off-campus placements, you need to try on your own. Today several job portals are there where you can find those off-campus jobs and moreover, nowadays LinkedIn is a very powerful social medium where many recruiters post about several jobs. So if you want to try for internships on your own then you can go for off-campus placement activity. Except this, you will get the opportunity to seat for AMCAT also by which you can sit for several interviews by which also you can get internships or placement.
Generally, students get placed through on-campus placements. Almost 90 per cent of students opt for on-campus one and rest apply for off campus one. So, just keep in mind that internship is important in the MBA curriculum which gives an overview of the corporate job.
