CBSE has stated that all the regional languages have been put under the minor category for the purpose of administrative convenience.

CBSE Class 10, 12 Term-I exam will be held in Nov-Dec

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a clarification over allegations of Punjab Chief Minister, Charanjit Singh Channi on keeping Punjabi out of Major subjects for board exams.

The CBSE has stated that the classification of subjects has been done purely on the administrative ground for conducting the Term - I Exam based on the number of candidates appearing in the subject.

“ln no way it reflects the importance of subjects as Major or Minor from the academic point of view. Punjabi is one of the regional languages being offered. All the regional languages have been put under the minor category for the purpose of administrative convenience in relation to the logistics required for the conduct of examinations,” mentions CBSE.

Earlier on October 21, Punjab CM wrote a tweet, where he opposed keeping Punjabi out of major subjects in the Term-I examination.

“I firmly oppose the CBSE's authoritarian decision to keep Punjabi out of the main subjects. This is against the federal spirit of the Constitution, violating the right of Punjabi youth to learn their native language. I condemn this biased exclusion of Punjabi,” Channi tweeted.

CBSE this week announced the date-sheet of Class 10, 12 Term-I board examinations. The Class 10 Term I minor subject exam will begin on November 17 with Painting paper and will end on December 7. While for Class 12 will begin on November 16 with Entrepreneurship and Beauty and Wellness paper and will end on December 30.

CBSE Class 10 major exams will be conducted between November 30 to December 11, while Class 12 exams will be held from December 1 to December 22.

The term-I examinations will start at 11.30 am instead of 10.30 am for Class 10 and 12, and 20 minutes will be allocated for reading, which was 15 minutes earlier.
