Under the updated push, the INSPIRE-MANAK scheme is being promoted more actively among Classes 6 to 12.
Department of Science and Technology (DST) has intensified the rollout of its INSPIRE initiative to broaden STEM learning and support early-stage innovation across the country. The renewed drive aims to identify young talent at the school level and ensure continuity for students pursuing science in higher education.
Under the updated push, the INSPIRE-MANAK scheme is being promoted more actively among Classes 6 to 12. Schools are being encouraged to submit original ideas from students, which are screened at multiple levels. Selected candidates receive financial assistance to develop working models before moving to state and national rounds. Officials said the objective is to widen participation and bring in students from regions that often remain under-represented.
The INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) continues to support top-performing students who opt for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in natural and basic sciences. Around 12,000 scholarships are awarded annually to candidates from national and state boards, as well as high-ranked students from major entrance examinations who choose science streams.
DST has also sharpened the implementation of Vigyan Jyoti, which focuses on encouraging more girls to pursue STEM disciplines. The programme offers mentoring, lab visits, academic sessions and interactions with researchers across IITs, NITs and national laboratories.
The three components INSPIRE-MANAK, INSPIRE-SHE and Vigyan Jyoti form part of a long-term plan to strengthen India’s science and research ecosystem and create a steady flow of trained talent.
