IIT Bombay invites applications for free online course on creating android apps on SWAYAM platform
The course consists of 10 audio-video spoken tutorials that can be taken up by learners at their convenience once they register on the SWAYAM platform.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay is now accepting applications for a free online course on how to create an ‘Android app using Kotlin software. Kotlin software is a new open-source programming language, that runs on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), and has been built by JetBrains, known for IntelliJ IDEA (Android Studio is based on IntelliJ IDEA). Kotlin has been announced as an official language on Android by Google.
The course consists of 10 audio-video spoken tutorials that can be taken up by learners at their convenience once they register on the SWAYAM platform. The program is an All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) approved FDP course, which will be conducted by Kannan M Moudgalya who is a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The course could take approximately 8 weeks to finish and is most suited for undergraduate and post-graduate students.
IIT Bombay free online course: Software Requirements
- Learners’ laptop configuration should have the specifications as given under system requirements in the link https://developer.android.com/studio/
- Java should be installed on the system as Kotlin has deep interoperability with Java
- Learners will need to take care that there is a constant internet connection while installing and building the first project
- The tutorial on ‘Getting started with Hello World app’ will have to be followed to learn how to install a setup on an Android phone.

- Candidates who are interested to enroll in the course can go to the official website of SWAYAM
- To register, they have to use the sign up button for which they have to provide their username, password and email address and verify their accounts using the send verification code option.
