IIT Roorkee signed this MoU with OUAT for the next five years.

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Roorkee collaborated with Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, OUAT for research programs in the sector of agriculture and education. According to the reports, with this collaboration, frontier technologies would be generated and quality manpower in the field of agricultural research and education would be produced for addressing the challenges faced by rural communities and improving their quality of life. According to the signed MoU by the Director of IIT Roorkee and Vice-Chancellor of OUAT, both institutions will collaborate in research programs. IIT Roorkee signed this MoU with OUAT for the next five years.

While speaking at the event about this collaboration, IIT Roorkee Director, Ajit K Chaturvedi said, “The agricultural sector is the foundation of the Indian economy and the largest employer in the country. Low farm income, climate change, and low productivity are some of the potent challenges in the sector. We are glad to partner with Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology- one of the oldest agricultural research institutions in India. The partnership will augment the government’s efforts towards capacity-building and will be a step forward in achieving the goal of ‘AatmaNirbhar’ Bharat.”

These institutes will work together in the field of Agriculture in the field of Genomics, Transgenics and Metabolomics, crop improvement, Information, and Communication, application of Sensors in agriculture, information and communication, IT-based societal development, and related aspects of Agriculture leading to the creation of rural livelihood opportunities.

Expressing his happiness with this collaboration, OUAT Vice-Chancellor, P.K. Agrawal stated that new avenues would be created for interdisciplinary research with the involvement of scientists from OUAT and IITR. “It is in line with our vision to provide socially sensitive, environmentally responsible, and economically beneficial education, research, extension, and outreach services in agriculture and allied sciences. Besides, there will be joint research projects having common interest in both the institutions,” he added.
