Mumbai University allows affiliated colleges to reopen except those in suburbs, Mumbai city
The decision was taken by the University after it received confirmation letters from collectors of Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Thane rural, and other districts with MU-affiliated colleges.
The University of Mumbai has allowed all the affiliated colleges in the city barring those that are in the city barring the ones in Mumbai city and suburbs to reopen from today; i.e. February 16 onwards. The new circular comes two days after the varsity released the notice directing all the affiliated colleges in the city to postpone reopening until February 22, 2021.
The decision was taken by the Mumbai University after it received confirmation letters from collectors of Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Thane rural, and other districts with MU-affiliated colleges. While speaking to a media house, an MIU spokesperson said, “For colleges in Mumbai city and suburbs, we’ll wait for official word from the local civic authorities before taking a call on reopening of institutes. However, we received official intimation from collectors of respective districts and have therefore given colleges in those districts confirmation to reopen.”
Earlier, the Higher and Technical Education Minister of the state, Uday Samant had said that colleges may reopen but only 50 per cent of students will be allowed on campus at any given point in time. Later, it was also announced that the state government will also be issuing separate COVID-19 guidelines or Standard Operating Procedures for the reopening of colleges and universities across the state.
Meanwhile, the Minister has recently confirmed that Maharashtra University Exams 2021 will be conducted in both online and offline mode. He also said that the option to appear for examinations in the online or offline modes will be kept open for students. This was decided at a meeting of vice-chancellors of universities in the state.
