Mumbai University is all set to conduct final year examinations in multiple-choice questions or MCQ format. The decision is taken after conducting multiple meetings on Saturday i.e. September 5, 2020. According to the report, the papers would be conducted online and students would appear for the same from the safety of their homes. The same pattern will be followed by other state universities in Maharashtra as well.

The official reports suggest that the paper pattern, the MCQ based online examinations would be a one hour long paper of 50 marks. The pattern is likely to be followed by ATKT as well. Meanwhile, the University decided to conduct the practical exam and viva voice online – either through a phone call or on any of the available digital platforms.

While MU is yet to release a complete date sheet in due course of time, it is expected that the backlog examination for final year students would be conducted first. Once the practicals complete, the backlog exams are likely to be conducted between September 25 and September 30. Theory exams would be scheduled between October 1 and October 17, with exams for Commerce degree students conducted first.

The decision to conduct these exams is taken after months of wait and confusion over Mumbai University final year examinations. The Supreme Court upheld the UGC Guidelines and made it mandatory for examinations to be conducted for a degree. While most of the Universities in Maharashtra would follow the footsteps of Mumbai University, Pune University – SPPU, however, would be an exception as it has already conducted the exams. The University is expected to release a separate set of guidelines for students who are supposed to appear for the exams.
